1U Sunday, Dec. 6, 1959 Ashland Council Adopts Ordinance Ashland - A measure ap proved by the 1959 state legis lature which regulates the sale or furnishing of tobacco to minors was reinforced in an ordinance adopted by the Ashland city council last week. The measure also regulates the use and possession of to baco in any form by person under 18 years old. Provided for is a fine of not less than $5 nor more than S50 for persons convicted ofl furnishing tobacco to a minor for the minor's consumption, according to the ordinance., A fine of not more than' $5 or a jail term not to exceed two days for each offense is stipulated for a minor who smokes or is in possession of tobacco in a public place. The same penalty applies to any proprietor or employee of a business establishment who allows a minor to use tobacco while on the premises. Retail sales of room air con ditioners are expected to to tal between 1,600,000 and 1,- 750,000 units this year an 18 ' to 30 per cent increase over 1958. Air conditioner manu facturers invested 7 per cent more advertising in daily newspapers in the first six months of this year than in 1958.
