Newspaper Page TextEAGLE POINT Clinic Said Success Br DOTTIE HARBISON Eagle Point-David Harbi- on. Eagle Point chairman of the . Jaycee sponsored polio clinic Saturday, expressed his appreciation to those who participated to make the clin ic success. Particiating in the clinic here were the Eagle Point and Shady Cove Parent T e a e h e r associations, the Eagle Point Junior Chamber of Commerce and Jaycette, the schools, physicians and nurses and the 560 persons who received Salk polio shots. The next polio clinic will be held Dec. 12 in the same locations and it is hoped ev eryone in the community will have the opportunity to take advantage of the program to obtain immunization shots. The first, second, third and fourth shots will be available at that time. Mrs. Bill White gave a sur prise birthday party in hon or of her son, Johnny, on his birthday Nov. 14 at her home on South B st. Games were played, presents opened and punch was served with the birthday cake. Those attending were Greg and Terry White, Georgia Raye and Tommy Clark, Jamie Ellis, Harold and Paul . Herbison, Sherrie, Debra, and Chrystal White, "Denny, Den nis and David Reed, Jimmie, Terry and Steven Dunn, Mrs. Cleo Cartwright, Mr. and Mrs. George White, and the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill White. Mrs. Joe Munshaw is home from the hospital following major surgery. Her condition is reported to be improving by .her husband. The Rev. Joseph Munshaw. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Chris tian and daughters, Dorrene and Suedene, were honored wifK a hratu warminff rpfpru tion at their new home on Reese Creek rd., Friday, Nov. 13. The Christians purchased the Arnold Nease home and sold their home to the Eagle Point School district. Mrs. Ora Mevig of Eagle Point is confined to Sacred Heart hospital as a medical patient and may receive vis itors at present. The Elementary Paren.t Teacher association will not hold a meeting Tuesday, Nov. 24, as scheduled because of an open house .which was held Nov. 12 in conjunction with National Education Week. . - The Cub Scouts and' their families of Pack 48 will hold their monthly pack meeting at 8 p.m. in the grade school gymnasium Tuesday, Nov. 24. The theme for this month is 'The Old Country Store." Den 3 will arrive early to set up the chairs, Den 1 will present the colors, and Den 5 will be in charge of clean up. Highest temperature recorded at Squaw Valley is 90 and the lowest is 15 degrees below zero Fehrenheit. Freezing temperatures, the Weather Bureau reports, can occur in every month of the year, thus restricting local gardening to the most hardy vegetables and flowers. Be cause of the protective winter snow covering, the ground us ually does not freeze below the immediate surface. Most of the precipitation falls as snow in the winter months. More than three fourths of the annual average precipitation occurs in .the five, months from November through March. . New . York-flJPB-Homeown-ers are not buying as many 100-watt light bulbs as they used to and are switching to 70 and 60 watts. Reason for this is that homeowners are using more lamps around the house and consequently can cut the higher wattages. Although the girls were not elected, it was considered quite an honor to have two girls nominated for state of fices with a representation of 90 schools present. Girls attending the conven tion with their advisor, Mrs. Hall, were Phyllis Perry, Jackie Hume, Aedene Jensen, Sally Rogers, Kathy Houston, and Bonnie Goehring. The badminton sports play day originally scheduled Dec. 5 has been rescheduled for Decj -12 to enable the yell leaders to attend a cheerlead ers convention at Phoenix Dec. 5, according to the ad visor, .Mrs. Hall. Carol Smith, yell queen, Jackie Hume, Jo Ann Nolen, Dorrene Chris tian, and Toni Miller, all yell leaders, will attend the con vention and hope to gain new yells, stunts and useful hints. The Eagle Point Communi ty church accepted an invita tion from the Butte Falls Community church 'to attend a skating party at- Ashland recently for several churches throughout the valley. Eagle Point took 25 of the 165 skat ers to Ashland with Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Frei, Ray Palm, George Hickman, and Mrs. Herbert Perdue furnishing the transportation.
