T-H Amendments
To Take Effect

er, regional officer-in-charge
for the national labor rela
tions board, has announced
that his office is ready to be
gin administration of the new
Taft-Hartley amendments on
Friday, Nov. 13, when the
new amendments take effect.
The amendments cover such
subjects as picketing, secon
dary boycotts, the right of
strikers to vote in board elec
tions, and hot cargo and sub
contracting agreements. These
amendments will be adminis
tered exclusively by the
board.
They also provide that the
states, for the first time since
the enactment of the Wagner
Act in 1935, may regulate
labor disputes over which
the NLRB declines to assert
its jurisdiction. Other provi
sions, which deal primarily
with reporting and disclosure
matters, and with the demo
cratic rights of union mem
bers and the fiduciary duties
of union officers, will be ad
ministered in the main by the
U.S. department of labor.
: Wiener stated, "We are
ready to, and we will, admin
ister the new Taft-Hartley
amendments, vigorously, ex
peditiously, and fairly."
