CENTRAL POINT Poster Features Week 7 Br DORIS HUGHES Central Point - Visitors at the Central Point library last week ' commented on the at tractiveness of the large new .poster 'which features a child exploring books. .Librarian at Central Point is Mrs. Violet . Cook. Arranged in the room is a long table where students may work, taking advantage of the reference material available. Requested books maybe ordered from the 'Medford library.-Mrs. Cook said. She said she also would t appreciate information re garding the types, of books visitors would prefer. A fresh supply of reading ; material is assured with the .monthly exchange of approx imately 70 books --with the Medford library. Current mag azines also are on hand. The Central Point library is ; open Mondays from 1 to 5 v p Jn. and Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays the library is open from 7 to 9 p.m. A drop in slot affords convenience in - returning books at any time. - Bill Brewster, principal, announced that an interesting session was held recently for , teachers of Jewett Elementary school by the Jackson County ' curriculum materials director, Jim McDonald. The theme of ': the meeting was "Lets get ; acquainted with the facilities ! of the Jackson county curri culum material center." The newly expanded offices of the ' department have services to otter in every area of the school curriculum. The occasion was the celebration of Mrs. Ralph Greenman's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Herrman are parents of an 8 pound S ounce boy born Nov. 1 at the McMinnville hospital. He has been named B r e n t Allan. Grandparents are Mrs. Mary Herrmann of Central Point and Mr. and Mrs. Delos Wal ker of Gold Hill. Great grand parents of Gold Hill are Mx. and Mr. Alva Walker. Both the mother and father of the baby were students of Crater High school.' Bill Brewster announced 'that H. P. Jewett school re- ' eeived an "excellent" stand- .. ardization rating by the state . department this year. Oregon " schools must meet state re ' quirements to be able to re ceive moneys from the. basic school support fund, he said. '.',' ' ' -J i Mr. and Mrs. Royal Green- Dr. Singer Speaks At St. Mary's Dr. Kurt D. Singer of the , National. School Assembles, :- and . a world authority on pie and traitors, spoke to the St. Mary's student body Tues day, Oct. 3. . r , Dr. Singer was an intelli- gence officer for the United , States during World War II, ' and operated in Sweden, Den ; mark, Norway and Finland. After the war, his. operations continued in Germany. . He has written many books, among which are "The- World's Best Spy," ''More Spy Stories," and "The Danny t Kay Story," which have been ' added to the school library.
