Sund.iy, Nov. 8, 1959 Color Delineators To Be Used on Freeways in Stale Salem-Color coded delinea tors are being used to guide traffic on Oregon Interstate highways, according to W. C. Williams, state highway engi neer. The delineators are white reflectors mounted on white posts at 200-foot intervals . along the right hand edge of through roadways, and yel low reflectors on yellow col ored posts along acceleration and deceleration lanes at interchanges. Easily visible by day, the .. same delineators are equipped with three inch prismatic re flectors which, under normal weather and atmospheric con ditions, can be seen for a dis tance of 1,000 feet at night when they are iluminated by the upper beam of standard automobile headlights. Inierchangw . On deceleration and accele ration lanes and the ramps of interchanges the delineators are spaced at 100-foot inter vals. The state highway- de partment paints the posts a bright yellow for, daylight recognition, and equips each post with a pair of yellow re flectors for recognition at night. The change from single white to double yellow reflec tors make it clear to the mo torist that he is approaching a point of exit from the free way, Williams said. He added that triple amber reflectors -are used to mark the end of acceleration lanes when en tering the freeway. These are placed so the viewer has ade quate time to adjust to tne flow of main highway traffic. ' The design of the delinea tors was developed by the American Association of State Highway Officials and the U.S. bureau of public roads, Successful Results of New Drug Are Reviewed sure which does not respond Successful results in clinical trials of a new drug for lower ing high blood pressure have been reported by the Veterans administration. Doctors administering the drug, guanethidine, to patients at two VA hospitals said it had a potent effect in reduc ing high blood pressure, simi lar to the effects of ganglionic- Diocjung drugs now in use against the disease, but did not produce the undesirable reactions that these drugs do. Dr. Edward D. Freis of the Washington, D.C., VA hospital and his co-researcher, Dr. Ed ward D. Frohlich of George town university school of med icine, said 15 patients of the Washington VA hospital re ceived a daily dose of guane thidine by mouth for periods varying from four to nine weeks. . Richmond Hospital Dr. David W. Richardson and Dr. Eugene M. Wyso.of the Richmond, Va., VA hos pital said 25 patients with high blood pressure there re ceived the drug daily by mouth, in pill form, over period of 4Vz months. Dr. Freis and Dr. Frohlich noted some undesirable ef fects of guanethidine, includ ing aiarrnea. However, no case was considered serious and the diarrhea was readily controlled by medication The Richmond VA hospital team said the only possible harmful effects of guanethi dine were those that could be expected from lowering the blood pressure - chiefly dizzi ness while the patient is standing. The FBI is checking for latent fingerprints in Wash ington, D.C and the results should be known soon. Bhyne of the American Bar Association says world peace can only be achieved if law replaces brute force as a means of ettling international dis putes. Some industry sources were predicting mill closures be cause of the price tumble. . The previous post-war low for quarter-inch A-D index grade sanded plywood was reached in February and April of 1958 when the price fell to $64. Major producers attributed the falling prices to a slow demand for plywood coupled with a record high production Industry spokesman said the $64 level would result in most plants selling plywood at below-cost levels.
