Tkurdy, Hmr. 5, 15 Western World Welcomes Ike's Proposed Jaunt London -fllTO- The Western world today warmly wel comed President Eisenhower's nine-nation tour and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of India said he hoped to use the occasion to discuss Com munist " Chinese invasions of the Indian bonder. . Western diplomats thought the Eisenhower visit would strengthen Nehru in his quar rel w i t h : Peiping. Only Wednesday , Nehru rejected Peiping's claims to large areas of her northern territories and denied Red Chinese asser tions the Indians provoked re cent border clashes. No Comment by China - Communist China, which would be expected to be an noyed at the Elsenhower visit, made no immediate comment. - A bare announcement of the - Eisenhower visit was carried - by the Communist New China News Agency. The Soviet Union also heard the announcement without comment but observ ers in Moscow said Premier - Nikita . Khrushchev probably would be "pleased and flat tered" at Eisenhower's under- i taking because of Khru shchev's own belief -in per sonal diplomacy as a means of easing world tension. i Would Welcome Nikita There have been reports Khrushchev also might stop off in India when he visits In donesia early next year but Nehru said today in New Del hi he would welcome him al though Khrushchev was nei- ther invited nor expected. ' : - Diplomats and newspaper editorials throughout Western 'Europe and in many places of Asia and the Middle East praised Eisenhower as a man 7 of peace. In India the Eisen- ? hower trip drew banner head- - lines and glowing editorials. How ever, selectivity is likely to continue to be greatly in evi dence, it adds. . ; Deadline to Get Vet Bonuses Hears The deadline for applying for war veterans' bonuses in Washington, Montana and Louisiana is Dec. 31, Jerry V. Biandoni, Jackson county service officer said today. The ; Washington bonus is being paid to its Korean vet erans who were residents of that state for one year imme diately prior to military serv ice ana wno servea xor su days or more between June 27, 1950, and July 26, 1953 Applications a r e available from county service officers or the department of veter ans' affairs in Oregon, or by writing" the state auditor. Olympia, Wash. - The year-end aeaune in Montana affects World War : n veterans wno were resi dents of that state at the time of entering active duty, and who served between Dec. 7, 1941, and Sept. 2, 1945. Ap plications should be made to adjusted compensation divi sion, box 612, Helena, Mont. The Korean veterans' bonus deadline in Montana is July 28. 1961. The Louisiana bonus -is for Korean veterans who were residents there at the time .they enlisted and who served between June 27, 1950, and July 26, 1953." Applications may be obtained from county service officers or the state veterans' department in Ore gon, or by writing the depart ment of veterans affairs, Old State capitol, Baton Rouge, La.
