The apparatus in which he plans to accomplish the feat is one he designed himself. Mrs. Katherine Heard, 53, who holds the women's cham pionship for ascent of the Peak, was hiking alone when she saw the big cat peering at her a few steps down the trail. Salvador Dali To Pedal Globe Across New York Harbor Port Lligat, Spain-dJPD-Sal-vador Dali says he plans to pe dal across New York harbor in a transparent globe this Thanksgiving day. "I invented a transparent globe equipped with two smaller transparent globes," the unpredictable painter said at his home here. "I will sit in there and I will pedal my way ashore after the liner I am aboard comes into sight of the Statue of Liberty." Dali won't go into detail about his invention. He hasn't patented it yet. But if his hopes are borne out the world will get a glimpse of it when he arrives in New York Nov. 26. One of Current Interests Transparent globes are on ly one of the current interests of the painter who is famous for limp watches in his pic tures and a neat, upturned moustache on his face. He is working on a painting which he says will be his master piece. - "This paintingwill be the most important in my car eer," he said. "Its subject is the discovery of the new world by Christopher Colum bus, with obvious references to the space age we are now entering." Dali works on the 15-by-20 foot canvas in a cluttered stu dio in his villa on the Costa Brava. He was born near Port Lligat, and he regards this this fishing village as "home." "This is my buen retiro (good shelter) where I like to spend six months every year," he said. "The other six months I usually live in an other seaside place, New York." Dali's home reminds you of his paintings. A stuffed polar bear stands in the hall. He col lects rhinoceros horns. The statuary includes the polished cast of a human ear. "I like this bay, the transparent water of my sea,' the bare hills all around. I was born at Figueras, just a 40-minute drive from here. This is why I am at home, really at home, at Port Lli gat." Book Translated In these surroundings Dali paints and writes. One of his books was just translated into Japanese. He held up a copy. "Do you know Japanese? No? Too bad."
