October 23. - The Abbotts were married in Jacksonville, Ohio, on Oc tober 23, 1909, and came to Medford in February, 1911. Mr. Abbott was employed by the Medford Irrigation dis trict from March 1, 1932, un til his retirement. Fall flowers decorated the hall for the event attended by 95 relatives and friends. Mrs. Henry Dooms, Ashland, and Mrs. Richard Singler served the coffee and cake. Assisting with arrangements were members of the Degree Tour Announced For Garden Club Talent - Talent Garden club will tour two gardens follow ing their business meeting Wednesday, November 4. at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Bun nell, Medford. Mrs. C. H. Newton will be co-hostess. The gardens to be toured will be the Thompson garden In Central Point where chrys anthemums will be viewed and the Motchenbacher gar den near Jacksonville for fuchsias. mversary of Pocahontas lodge. Grade Teachers Begin New Year Herbert Wing is president of the Medford Grade Teach er's association which met Oc tober 26 at the Wilson School cafeteria for the first fall ses sion. Other officers include Mrs. Maxine Mee, vice president; Mrs. Charlotte Sweet, secre tary, and Bruce Metzger, treasurer. Kenneth Hulburt, principal of Jefferson school, spoke on the history, achievements and purpose of the association. The Jackson Teachers' chor us sang several selections. Re freshments were served by the Wilson, Griffin Creek and Howard school teachers. Phone SP 2-6428 Large Reception Honors Grand Officers of Star Over 400 Order of Eastern Star members from all parts of Oregon gathered in Med ford October 24 to attend a reception honoring Morris Boughner, associate grand pa tron of the grand chapter of Oregon and Mrs. E. G. Ran dolph, grand representative of the. District of Columbia in Oregon. The reception was sponsored by Reames chapter, of which both are members, and held in the Masonic tem ple. Mrs. Audrey E. Roberts and Carl Oestreich, worthy ma tron and patron of the chap ter, presided. The invocation was given hy Dr. D. Kirkland West. : Members of the grand chap ter present were Mrs. E. M. The program was , opened by an organ prelude with Miss Edna Daugherty, Alpha cnapter, Asniand, at the or gan, followed by choral selec tions by members of Bethel 13, Job's Daughters and vocal selections of the Alpha trio, Mrs. Martel Peters, Mrs. R. L. McKay and Mrs. Weilliam E. Weber, representing the Southern Oregon association of the Order of the Eastern Star. Addenda were presented by the associate matrons and pa trons of Portland and vicinity; Post, Auxiliary See Color Slides Shady Cove - Colored slides of Roseburg following the Au gust 7 explosion and of the Hawaiian Islands were shown at the October 24 meeting of the Steelhead post and auxil iary, Veterans of Foreign Wars at VFW hall, Shady Cove. - Narrators for the showing were Mrs. Norman Bandy and Mrs. H. R. Prentice. Pat Bandy and Miss Judy Stuart were soloists. They sang songs popular during World War I and several reli gious songs. Mrs. Eve Prent ice accompanied them on the accordion. Miss Monte Noble and Miss Dawn Oliver, also played sev eral accordion selections. grand representatives and by the Courtesy Ladies of Reames chapter. Following the benediction by Dr. George Roseberry, re freshments were served in the dining room. The gold cover ed star shaped refreshment ta ble was centered by a huge center piece of bronze and gold chrysanthemums. Pour ing were Mrs. Jack Ward, Mrs. Frank Little, Mrs. Ver non A. Turpin, Mrs. Fred Purdin and Miss Pauline Champlain. . Mrs. Jack Caldwell and Mrs. John Esp were co-chairmen for the affair. A no-host dinner at the Medford hotel preceded the reception and the following morning Reames Social club served breakfast for all out-of-town guests. Parents' Club To Hold Session Monday Night The November meeting of St. Mary's Grade School Par ents' club will take place Monday in the activities room of the school at 8 p.m. Hostesses will be Mrs. Clark Thomas and Mrs. Charles Bot.tjer. Refreshments will be served at a social hour follow ing the business session by Mrs! Edward Nave and moth ers of children in Sister Karen Rose's first grade room. Committee appointments have been announced by Pres ident Carl M. Brophy. They are Joseph Moore, finance; E. E. Ford, athletic; Mrs. W. D. Woodcock, program and social; Mrs. Thomas R. Eslin ger, spiritual; Richard Ran dolph, playground mainten ance; Mrs. Frank J. Gritsch, rooms mothers; Mrs. John L. Hochstatter, publicity, and Mrs. George Davy, library maintenance. ' " Mrs. Davy has reported that $1000 has been made avail able for grade school library use from proceeds of the "Rogue Chef cook cook, a project of her committee. Ac cording to Sister Superior Gerard Mary, visual aid funds appropriated by the parents' club have been used to pur chase three record players and carts to transport them. Records are still to be bought from remaining funds. Sister Superior introduced the grade school teachers to parents at the club's last meeting. They are Sister Inez Joan, principal and eighth grade; Neil Murphy, seventh grade and coach; Sister Jus tyn Mary, sixth and seventh grade; Sister Agnes of the Cross, fifth and sixth grades; Sister Columban Mary, fifth grade; Donald Sweeney, fourth grade; Sister Mary Ber nard, third and fourth grade; Sister Theresa Jean, third grade; Mrs. Mary Metz, sec ond grade; Mrs. Margaret De vers, second grade; Sister Marian Arthur, first grade; Sister Karen Rose, first grade; Sister Miriam Joseph, Sister Corita Mary and Sister M. Sunday, Nov. 1, 1959 A Senior Center To Have Class In Rug Making Mrs. vera wngnt will in struct a class in rug making at the Senior Activity Center Monday from 10 until 12 noon starting Monday, No vember 2. The group plans to have a snack lunch at noon and then remain for the Arm Chair Travel group at 1 p.m. Mrs. Herman Ekerson will show travel slides of the Orient. Former and present mem bers of the oil and pastel painting class have been asked to take their paintings to the Center Tuesday, November 3, to be used in an exhibit to be arranged for the Southern Oregon Conference on Aging to be held Saturday, Novem ber 14, at the First Methodist church. The wood - carving group has also been requested to take samples of their work to the Center on Tuesday for the same purpose. The orchestra, under the direction of Edward Root, will play before the opening of the morning session at the conference and at the lunch eon. Tuesday, November 3, Dr. Frank Roberts, chairman of the recreation committee of the Rogue Valley Council on Aging, will speak on Fifty Plus clubs and Senior Centers at the dinner meeting of the Ashland Lions club. The club has taken geriatrics as a study for their program this year. 4 Smorgasbord Set In Central Point Central Point - Plans for a smorgasbord to be served November 14 at the Central Point Grange hall were made at the recent meeting of the Home Economics club of the Grange. The members voted to combine the November and December meetings to be held December 16 so it will not conflict with the holidays. Nomination of officers was held. Mrs. Cecil Keenan reported on the rummage sale and Mrs. Charles Jantzer mention ed the dinner served to city and county officials earlier this month. Mrs. Edward Lull served dessert to the 13 members who attended the meeting at her home on Old Stage road. Mrs. O. T. Wilson, recreation chairman, directed games fol lowing the meeting. 1 Office Managers Hear Tax Speaker Oda Benigar, Medford, em ployee of the Oregon Tax commission spoke regarding the new tax laws at a meeting Monday of the Medford chap ter, National Office Managers, at the Medford hotel. Following his talk a ques tion and answer session was held.
