Sieg Gains 59 Dan Sieg and Mike Hood led the Medford turf attack with 59 and 53 respective yards. Griggs ran for 45, Bill Charley for 41 and Bennett for 38. Ron Scholar gained 41 for the Grizzlies. A fumble recovery on Ash land's 24 yard line on the game's second scrimmage play was turned, into Mediords initial score. This play gained 13 yards of some 21 needed by Medford to gain first down. The Black Tornado lost the ball two plays later after two passes went incomplete. Medford won 56 to 0. In the late first quarter Ashland was forced to punt, with Phil Tucker booting, from its seven-yard line after Lowell Dean and Jerry Wine- trout spilled the Grizzlies' Gray for a 13-yard loss. The ball went out to the 37. Four scrimmage tries after that came ennett's pitch to Rags dale for 19 yards and a TD Ragsdale caught the ball on about the 10, jumped free of one would-be tackier and tow ed another across the goal. First quarter ended 12 to 0. Long Drive Medford went IV2 minutes into the second panel before another score. The Tornado ground : to this TD from its own 18 yard line in 11 plays. After nine packs the ball was on the Ashland 10 but hold ing put the Pear city boys back to the 25. A Hood pass to Ragsdale made 18 to the seven. Bennett went off right tackle to . cross the goal. He then ran. over for the Tornado's- first extra point. ; Then Calvin Dean's recov ery of a fumble gave Medford the ball again on the Grizzly 24. Ray Konopasek gained 13 on a keeper. Griggs went nine to the two and touch downed on the succeeding tryTDurkee got into the end zone on a conversion plunge but offside cancelled it and a pass, Durkee to Konopasek, was complete but did not get across the goal. With two minutes left in the half Anderson intercepted a Dave Jackson pass. He just about did an Indian jog in ef fort to break loose then found a way to run and dance to the Ashland zone. Halftime score was 31 to 0. Drives Off Kick-off The Tornado ground from its 32 in nine surges with the ball off the second half kick off and Griggs touchdowned off a pitch on a run around left end which went for 14 yards. Dick Ragsdale toed the ball for Medford's second conversion point. 1 Lowell Dean caught Jack son for a 14-yard loss back on the Ashland 11-yard line to help set up another score. Skiers To Meet On Wednesday Rogue Snowmen Ski club will hold a meeting on Wed nesday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at the Red Cross building. A movie, "Are Your -Skis on Straight?" will be shown. All skiers and others interested in skiing are invited. There will be no charge for admission. Durkee reached the end zone from two yards out but a Medford offside took the ball back to the seven. Durkee skirted right end from there and this time the run was good for a 44 to 0 three quarter count. In the fourth canto the Tor nado got the ball on the Ash land 34 when a Tucker punt went for just 10 yards. A Charley run ate up half the distance to the goal.. He gain ed to the 10 and Griggs to the four. Durkee went into TD land on the next play but off side wiped away the try and the ball was put on the nine. Three plays afterward Dur kee made good from the one. Bray Scores In the waning minutes Med ford got the ball on the Ash land 40 after a punt. A Cal Dean to Phil Humphrey's pass reached the 27. Jim Barry made three and George Clear water one yard. Dean heaved to Bray for 23 yards and the score. Humphreys got into the pay zone on the bonus try but an offside penalty again was a spoiler and a Dean to Barry pass try to convert fell in complete. Ashland mounted a push from its own 28 in the late second quarter. Scholar gain ed 11 and three yards and Voris eight to the 50. Scholar spun to the Medford 37. Gary legged to the 30 and Voris then to the 21. But the half- time horn sounded there. That was the only time Ashland .gained closer to the Medford goal than the" Grizzly 49; Ashland showed its speed on defense and Tornado backs did not breakaway like they have against some other teams. Terrific defense and offens- Pendleton Clinches A-l Berth United Press International Three high schools put A-l post-season football berths in their pockets and a number of other Oregon . prep powers cinched at least ties for re spective conference titles. Pendleton, Sandy and St. Helens now are guaranteed A-l berths. Pendleton ground out a 34 19 victory over Baker for a sixth consecutive win in the Intermountain league. In the Tualatin Valley league, Sandy dropped Parkrose 12-6 and al though St. Helens was beaten by Oregon City 19-14, it made it as contender Oswego lost to McMinnville 18-6. Dallas was eliminated by reason of a 7-7 tie with Tillamook. The mighty Black Tornado of Medford roared through Ashland, 56-0, for at least a tie in the Southern Oregon conference. In the Valley league, South Salem will have a share in the crown, by vir tue of Lebanon's 19-13 upset of North Salem. Marshfield, which downed Springield 19-0 in Midwestern league play, can win the title if it beats North Bend next week. Champion Jefferson and Lincoln both kept their Port land Interscholastic league records of 8-0 Intact and Da vid Douglas took another step toward the Metro League title with a 6-0 win over Beaver ton. Seaside Wins In A-2 action, first team to win a spot in the playoffs is Seaside, which crushed War- renton 50-6 for the Cowapa title. The Rogue-Umpqua dis trict berth ;will be decided next week between Phoenix and Sutherlin. Sutherlin ' de feated Glide 26-6 and Phoenix bumped Eagle Point 26-12. The Central-Eastern berth will go to either defending titlist Vale or Lakeview next week. The Capital crown was won by Woodburn, which beat Au rora 13-7, A 6-6 tie between Siuslaw and Toledo put the Coast berth in doubt. Coquille moved toward the .South Coast league championship, with a 19-6 whipping of Ban don, the latter's first loss, and Junction City's 18-13 victory over St. Francis put it in the lead in the Emerald league. Willamina and Philomath match their 7-0 Yawama League records next Friday. Sports Group Slates Session Charles Shepard, Oregon game commission lands agent, will speak to the Medford chapter of the Oregon Sports men Club of Jackson County at its regular meeting at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at Girls Community club. Shepard will speak on the problem deer loss created by the Howard Prairie delivery canal of the Talent division reclamation project. . Candidates for office for 1960 will be nominated. ' ive upperhand gave Crater a 12 to. 6 upset victory over the Klamath Union high Pelicans, who have yet to dump a Com et gridiron gang. It was the fourth win for the Central Point school over a Whitebird aggregation but was Crater's first decision this fall in Southern Oregon conference competition. Outcome dropped Klamath in the conference cellar in its closing circuit game, put Cra ter into a tie for third and gained the Comets a chance to try to knot for second in the final standings. ' Crater touchdowned in op ening quarter, saw the Pels tied up the mix in the third period in their only real threat, then sewed up their triumph with a counter in the final canto. Gillespey Runt 45 First TD for the Comets came on their first scrimmage play. A 20-yard punt runback by Cary Johnson gave the CP club the ball on the KF 45 yard line. Don Gillaspey on an off-tackle slate broke lose with fine blocking and outran to Pelican backs to score. Klamath Falls, which net ted only six yards from rush ing, took advantage of fruit less Crater gamble to get its TD points. The Comets failed on fourth down and four and Klamath got the ball on the Crater 45. The Pels took nine plays with Blake Griggs scor ing on a one-yard run. A long pass opened the way for the winning touchdown. The throw from Johnson to Jim .Eldred gained 40 yards and placed the ball on the Klamath 30 stripe. Gillaspey on a quick hitter up the mid dle earned the final one-half yard. While KF had just the one big offensive, Crater saw two drives in the first quarter and one in the third reach the Pel ican 10-yard line. In the final frame the Comets reached the KF 20. Just before the end of action they went to the Pel one-foot line only to suffer an offside penalty. On offense the Comets piled up 260 net yards to Klamath's 73. The Pelicans grossed 68 ground yards but were thrown for 62 in losses, victims of good, hard Crater tackling. Gang stops of white bird carriers boomed the Comet cause. Johnson's effective passing also helped the Crater dom ination. The Comets had 124 yards through the air on eight completions. Crater closes out its season next Friday as host to Ash land in the conference. The clubs have met before this season with the Grizzlies win ning 7 to 0 in non-league play. STATISTICS: Crater KF. Don Giles 35 yard run and conversion in the fourth quar ter got the points for Griffin Creek. Bruce Moyer scored on a 25 yard romp for the Piners. Talent Tips SH Eleven In B Loop Talent - Talent's Bulldogs trimmed Sacred Heart high of Klamath Falls here last night 14 to 6 in the final game for both schools in District 5B football. Talent with the win broke even for the year with three wins, three losses and a tie. Mike Jacobs capped a Tal ent drive in the second quar ter with a five-yard touch down jaunt. Bob Jacobs ran the extra and the score stood 7 to 0 at the half. The Bulldogs made it 14 to 0 in the third quarter on a 50-yard journey by Eddie Sea ver and his sneak for the bo nus count. Sacred Heart's marker was on a 24-yard run by Tom Ry an. Talent, with general con trol of the ball, led 9 to 5 in first downs and 244 to 137 in scrimmage yards. War Admiral Dies at Age 25 Lexington, Ky. -flJPD- War Adiral, peewee speedball win ner of racing's triple crown in 1937 and the greatest of the immortal Man O' War's sons, died Friday night at the age of 25. Jim Bandy tallied five times for the Hornets on runs of 40, 8 and 55 yards and on passes from Danny Miles for 60 and five yards. : Roy Ross touchdowned on four occasions. His runs were for two for 55 and one each for 15 and 40 yards. Gibb Mitchell had a 71-yard touch down run. Miles passed to Tom Barker twice and to Gary Griffin once for extra points and Bandy and Mitchell each converted once. The Lithians got their TD's on a 30-yard pass play and a five-yard run.
