Fraternity House Damaged by Fire Eugene - (DPD - Fire, which started from a defective flue, caused an estimated $1,000 damage- to the - Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house on the 1 University of Oregon campus here Thursday after noon. , j , A fire department spokes man said the fire spread into a vertical opening beside the flue and burned upward to the third story of the men's living group. No injuries were reported. Firemen said it took nearly an hour and a half to extinguish the stubborn blaze. Three of Straub's rivals for the post announced Thursday they have withdrawn. They are Portland attorney Berke ley Lent, Salem attorney Dan Poling and Vernon Burda, The Dalles. Straub is a former county commissioner for Lane county and was elected to the state Senate in 1958.
