The Tornado takes on Eure ka, Calif., one of its tradi tional non-league foes. Kick- off time is at 8 p.m. A halftime feature will be "Football Preview of 1965 Medford district's grade school and junior high school aggregations, in full uniform, will promenade on the turf along with he senk high var sity and jayvee squads 23 squads in all. Varied Offenses The Black Tornado, No. 1 among Oregon preps in the weekly polls will be the fa vorite tonight on the basis of its record and its deep strength in players. Medford enters the conflict tonight with a 6-0 record while the Eurekans have two victories, one tie and three defeats. The losses were all by the margin of one conver sion point and one of the wins was by the same differ ence. The Tornado holds a 44 to 7 triumph over Klamath Falls which tied the Loggers 6 to 6. This, according to available records, will be the 29th meet ing between Medford and Eu reka. The Tornado has won 21 times and the Loggers six. One fray was knotted. Eagle Admiral Futurity Choice Albany, Calif. (DPD Llan gollen Farm's Eagle Admiral is expected to lead a probable field of 11 two-year-olds onto the track Saturday for the $25,000 Golden Gate futurity. Eagle Admiral, who has been assigned top weight of 122 pounds, has won both his starts during the current meeting. The stretch-running son of Khaled handled the mile in 1:36 4-5 -last Saturday while winning the challenge purse. Phoenix, EP Unbeaten in Phoenix and Eagle Point high's attempt to keep perfect Rogue league football records intact this week end. Phoenix goes to Glendale tonight and Eagle Point to Henley on Saturday after noon. Another game this evening will have Illinois Valley at Rogue Riyer. The Pirates of Phoenix are sizable favorites in their game but the defending champion Pointers Defeat Hedrick Eighth Central Point eighth grade football team took an early lead but had to come from behind in the fourth quarter to trim Hedrick here yester day. The Pointers led 13 to 0 at the quarter and 19 to 14 at halftime. - Hornet Gridders tallied in the third canto to lead 20 to 19. Vern Swanson scored twice for CP on 70 and 35 -yard runs. Darrell Summerfield crossed the goal on a 45-yard trek and passed to Mike Rik ard for 25 yards and another touchdown. Gregg Faulkner went into the end ?one on a two-yard shove. Faulkner ran two extra points and Summer field one. Walter Verstrate t o u c fa downed for Hedrick on 40 and 20-yard trips and Jim Henry on a 13-yard romp. Henry and Tim Murray ran conversions. Both EP and Henley have victories by 13 point gaps over Illinois Valley. The Hor nets turned the trick over the Cougars by 13 to 0 and EP nearly got its "comeupance" before licking IV 26 to 13 last week. , Phoenix has a 27 to 7 win over Henley which beat Glen dale 32 to 0 last week. The Pirates also have a win over Rogue River which whipped Glendale. Coach Tom Van Etten of Eagle Point said earlier this week ' that the Eagles may have lost stellar tackle Gary Ayres because of injury. Bob Burnside Stays in Front Portland - OIPD - The North we Conference still is paced in individual player rushing by Bob Burnside of Pacific. The . halfback has racked up a 5.4 average, according to today's statistics. Lewis and Clark's Jack Ab die is runnerup with 353 yards and has a higher per carry average, 6.1 yards. Individual total offense leader is Charlie Alvaro of College of Idaho. Hhis total is 980 yards, 729 of them via passing. In team statistics, Linfield is first in both total offense and passing defense. Lewis and Clark was tops in rush ing, College of Idaho in pass ing and Willamette in rush ing defense. Biggest total de fense mark was made by Whitman. Conference back of the week honor went to Alvaro. The 5-8 quarterback took the coaches' nod for the third time this season. With 19 completions on 29 throws for a total of 382 yards, Ragsdale is a big rea son for effectiveness of the Tornado's passing game this fall. He's also a good pass catcher and runner. Crater High Faces GP Eleven Grants Pass - Harvey Gra ham likely will be at the full back post, where he started the season, and Tom Hath away may be a right halfback with both men filling the gap for lame players this evening when Grants Pass entertains Crater in District 6 A-l foot ball. They would replace Ron Hoatson and Glenn Davis for the Cavemen. j Davis last week took over fullback chores for Hoatson who has been troubled by a sore leg. But, Davis came up with back trouble in practice this week. The playing status of the two was listed yester day as "doubtful." Graham has been playing most recently at right half. Orioles Sign LC Infielder Portland -(UPD- George Adams, infielder for Lewis and Clark College last spring, has been signed to a profes sional baseball contract by the Baltimore Orioles, it was announced today. He has been working out at San Mateo, Calif., with several other Oriole prospects, Tonight Jim Eldred, left . halfback; Loyal Higinbotham, right half, and Don Gillaspey, full back. Game time is 8 p.m. This will be the fourth meeting between the two clubs. Grants Pass has won all three past collisions, 26 to 13 in 1956, 20 to 13 in 1957 and 26 to 7 last year. Howard, Hoover Knot in League Howard Mustangs and and Hoover Hurricanes be came co-champions of the American league of Medford Grade school football Thurs day when they battled to a 0 to 0 tie on the Jackson field. The hard-charging Hoover line blocked one punt and re covered two Howard fumbles but was unable to move the ball against the Howard de fense. The longest gain of the game was a 15 yard run by Howard halfback Lloyd Zach arias. Both the Hoover and Howard defenses were out standing. By holding the Hoover team to no score, the Howard Mustange remained unscored upon for the 1959 season. In another tie game in the loop, Lincoln and Griffin Creek ended 6 to 6. The "weekend" actually got underway Thursday after noon when the passing of Har vey White sparked bowl-conscious Clemson to a 27-0 tri umph over South Carolina in the last game of a "Big Thurs day" series that started back in 1896. On Friday night, CLA is a two-point favorite over the once-beaten Air Force Acad emy at Los Angeles and Au burn is a seven-point pick over Miami (Fla.) in a battle of once-beaten teams. In the only other major Friday games, Boston University is favored over Connecticut. Clemson's Victory Easy Clemson had little trouble in trouncing South Carolina before 47,000 fans at the South Carolina State Fair. The rivalry, always colorful and frequently stormy during its 63-year history, will be re sumed next year on a home-and-home basis rather than part of the state fair celebra tion. White completed nine of 11 passes for Clemson, two for touchdowns, and sub Lowndes Shingler hit on two of six as the Tigers swapped their usual reliance on rushing for a pass attack because of a muddy field. Bill Mathis scored twice for Clemson, once on a pass from White, and Don Usry slammed one yard for the other Tiger marker. Clemson 4-0 in At lantic Coast conference play, is a red-hot post-season bowl possibility. UCLA Over Air Force UCLA (1-2) is on the up grade after beating California and thus as the h3me team is rated a slight choice over the Air Force, which suffered its first loss last week to Oregon in an upset after three wins. Auburn's long unbeaten streak was scuttled by Ten nessee in the season opener but the Plainsmen came all the way back in upsetting Georgia Tech last week. Miami, which will be out weighed in the line, has lost only to national champion Louisiana State. Top-ranked L3U, third ranked Texas, fourth-ranked Southern California, and fifth-ranked Mississippi are expected to have fairly easy sailing during Saturday's big gridiron show.
