Linfield college's A Cap- "pella choir will appear .at Eastwood Baptist church Oct. 21 at 7:30 pan. The choir is directed by C Robert Zim merman, assistant professor of music at the college, Mc- Minnville. ; Organized in 1930 by Vir ginia Ward Elliott, the Lin field choir was the first such college group in the North west. The first year of the choir there were 18 members, The student singers have toured in Washington, Ore gon, California, Idaho, Utah and Montana. This year the 44 - voiced choir will tour southern Oregon and northern California during its fall con cert tour. Mr. Zimmerman, who took over the direction of the group last fall, was conductor of ttie Portland Symphonic choir which he organized in 1945. Events Told by Congregational '.'The sermon of the Rev. YCW is a world-wide or ganization of young people, regardless of faith, devoted to the spreading of Christian principles in everyday living. A question and answer per iod will be held and refresh ments served during confer ence intermissions. St. Mark's Starts Series of Classes Classes of instruction in re ligion and the basic tenets of the Christian faith designed for adults, will start at St. Mark's Episcopal church, Thursday, Oct. 15, at 8 pjn. in the parish house. The meet ings will continue for 12 weeks. The classes,, which will be conducted by the Rev. George R. V. Bolster, rector of St. Mark's, and the Rev. Duane S. Alvord, assistant, will be open to all who care to at tend and will involve no com mitment to further associa tion with the church. - Subjects which will be cov ered in the course of instruc tion will include church his tory, doctrine, worship and practice, the Christian sacra ments, Holy Bible, Book of Common Prayer, organization of the church, meaning and purpose of confirmation, and a concluding class on personal religion. The classes will be informal and questions and discussions will be included. For those who desire, these classes may lead to commun icant membership in the church. Robert Dowrey will be the teacher. SL Luke's St. Luke's church joins with American Methodists Sunday in the observance of Laymen's Day at the 11 a.m. worship service. Leon Myers, lay leader for the 'church will take charge of the service. Hunter Dixon, Larry- Hortbnj president of Methodist Men, and Steven Richards will also participate William Wilson will be at the organ. Richard Kyle will speak on the subject, "You Have Been Called!" MARION BROWN Former Medford Resident Unity President To Speak Next Week in Valley Mrs. Marion Brown, for merly of Medford, and now minister of the Unity Center in Bremerton, Wash., and president of the Unity Minis ters association, will speak in the Rogue River valley three times next week. Mrs. Brown, who conducted weekly study classes in Med ford during World War II, was elected to the association presidency at the internation al conference in June, 1959. She will speak Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 8 p.m. at the Bur nett home, 1020 NW Washing ton blvd., Grants Pass. Her topic will be "God Has A Pur pose." - Wednesday, Oct. 21, she will speak on "How Broad Should Our Religion Be?" at the Pythian hall, Fifth and Grape sts., Medford. Mystery Speaker at Methodist Church Gold Hill An unusual pro gram has been planned for Laymen's Day this Sunday at the Gold Hill Community Methodist ' church by Glenn Bowen. ' During the 11 a.m. worship services, the message will be given by a guest speaker, whose name will not be re vealed until that date, the Rev. James F. - Eubanks Jr. reported. Laymen of the church will present their pro gram. The choir will sing, "Some body Bigger Than You and directed by Mrs. C. Nor man Gail. Mrs, John Bruce will play the organ.
