solicitations. Employee groups of .20 or more,
may win the award plaque provided the
firm authorizes payroll deduction, 80 per
cent -of the" employees contribute, and not
less than 50 per cent of them give a "fair
share", which is not less than one hour's
pay per month for 12 months. -

to elementary and junior high
teachers on "Basic Principles
of Mathematics."
Miss Dana Small of Frank-,

report to secondary teachers,
on the . "content of second
couse," a report from the Uni
versity of Illinois committee
on school mathematics." -

teachers and Wendall Hall,
North Eugene High school,
president of OCTM, will open
the regular meeting.
The meeting is aimed at ac
quainting teachers with tech
niques and trends in the field
of mathematics. Those wishng

LUCK CHANGES A family that had more
than their share of hard luck are now on
the road to a life of good luck. The Kenneth
Payne family was found; sleeping in and
around their old automobile by two Macomb
county sheriff's deputies near Detroit, Mich.,
last month. The Sheriff's relief fund stepped
in with funds and supplied food and lodging,
for several nights. Shown here in their new
trailer home ; Beverly. Payne, 15,r cooks
dinner for her parents and nine brothers
and sisters. Seated at the table are Gloria,
7; Kenneth, 10, and Dianne, 14. Standing
behind the table is Nancy, 12. Mrs. Gloria
Payne is holding Polly, nine months. Stand
ing just behind Polly is Ruth, 5. The father
sitting; on the sofa is holding James, 2.

line storage area explosion
and fire.
Flames from the Gulf Oil
Co. storage" area here threat
ened an adjacent industrial
area for more thati an hour
before firemen were able to
contain the blaze.
The victims were identified
as G. W. Dubose, 31, and Otis
A. Robinson, 39. . . 0:

was Mrs. Louise Harperf 34,
an office worker for the Gulf
Oil Co., Fred B. Mitchell, 53,
office manager, and Ivan Gar
rett, 38, a truck driver.
Cause of the fire has not
officially been .determined.
