Camp Fire Girls Receive Funds From United Crusade , (Editor's note: This is an- -other in a series of articles about agencies served by the United Medford Cru- sade. Today's article dis cusses the Camp Fire Girls program in this area.) The 60-hour work week of 1900 has given way to today's 40-hour, and in many cases, 35-hour week. As workers move toward the six-hour day, four -day week, Americans will be spending approximate ly 78 of their lifetime in lei sure activities. Most . people want to use their leisure wisely and well. They want to spend more ' time in their homes, in hand craft and artistic activities, in sports and games, in having fun with their families, and in helping youngsters become alert, happy, responsible adults ready to meet the chal lenges of tomorrow. " This is what Camp Fire Girls in the Rogue valley and throughout- the country are doing. The organization pro vides an educational - recrea tional program for girls seven years old or in second grade through senior high school age. Men and women serve as adult volunteers. Women act as leaders, guardians, and ad visers for Blue Bird, Camp Fire Girls and Horizon Club groups, and both men and women act as group sponsors, consultants, local and national council and board members, officers and council commit tee members. Regardless of the position they fill, members of the Camp Fire Girls family have fitn and do worthwhile things. '-Adult volunteers find satis faction in using leisure time to make camps, ready for youngsters' summer fun or in taking Blue Birds or Camp Fire Girls on a trip that often teaches the volunteer as much as it does the Blue Bird. Staying Young Camp Fire Girls leaders and guardians of the Rogue Coun cil say there is no better way to stay young, broaden their fields of interest and learn new or forgotten skills than by joining Camp Fire Girls. They have as much fun hik ing, camping or cooking-out as. the girls do. There is no greater satisfaction, they say, than the satisfaction of know ing the person helped a girl acquire a new skill or achieve a goal. Camp Fire Girls' fathers share their know - how in sports and games with their daughters. It gives them an opportunity to display skills they have not had a chance to display in years. One Campe Fire Girl's father admitted he has never felt more useful in his life than he did when he was able to explain to his interested daughter how a bill is passed through the state legislature. This is one of the things she had to know to earn her Camp Fire Girls citizenship honor. Important Outlet Men and women represent ing every occupation and pro fession, are finding an import ant outlet for their talents and energies by helping Camp Fire Girls. Timber, Road Problems Aired Portland -0JPD- The U. S. Forest Service and Independ ent Timber Operators met here Tuesday night and dis cussed timber sales as they affect road construction'. Operators complained that although sales in the Clacka mas river and Sandy working areas will be increased by the Mt. Hood National forest to 300 million board feet per an num over the next three years, they will have to recon struct ,the Clackamas river highway to get the timber. Walter Lund of the serv ice's Timber Management Di vision said there was no al ternative but to link sale of timber to road construction. He said the highway's ca pacity will have to be in creased along with the boost in logging traffic and the For est Service has no funds to do the work. Timber operators indicated they would take the problem to Sen. Richard L. Neuber ger when his Subcommittee on Interior and Insular Af fairs meets here Friday.
