But it is an Italy with its "troubles economic and po litical. Economically, there is u n e m ployment. Politically, there is a complex' of parties from the extreme left to the extreme right, each with its own axe to grind. But militarily, Italy is in fine shape. Keeping what is known as "Italy" from falling apart at the seams is a problem that is getting worse by the mo ment. Italy includes the au tonomous regions of Sicily, the German-speaking region of Alto Adige and the French aligned region of Vglle Da osta. More Freedom Wanted Each region has its local government and local tradi tions, culture and language. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Sawyer of Long Beach, Calif., were re cent overnight guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Burrel Facey. Sawyer is a cousin of Mrs. Facey. . 1" Dale Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don C. Smith,, recently suffered injuries in an indus trial accident. As a result of the accident, Dale under went surgery at Sacred Heart hos pital. He is reported improved and is now at his home in Medford convalescing. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Pingle became grandparents for the first time late in August when a boy, Edmond Charles, was born to their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Fuller, of Eugene. Mrs. Pingle spent two weeks caring for her daughter and grandson upon their return from the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kei ser of Oxford, Neb., and Mr. and Mrs. Neil Walzer of St. Joseph, .Mo., recently spent several days with Mr. and Mrs. Duane Burton, members of the family. Bruce Pingle Jr., SN, Navy, was discharged from the serv ice mid-August and arrived home shortly thereafter. Bruce is now employed by Leo Hoag as a choker setter. . Gerald . G. Simmonds and family of Los Angeles, Calif., are visiting the Rev. and Mrs. Howard Simmonds. Gerald and Howard are brothers. The Gerald Simmonds family plan to go from here to Yakima, Wash., to visit another bro ther and family. Enrollment at the Butte Falls schools is higher this year than it has been in the past several years. William B. Hunter, superintendent of schools, reports 1 45 students registered at the high school, and Leonard Stratton, grade school principal, reports 126 students enrolled there. Mrs. Mary Hansen, of Glen dale, Calif., formerly of Nia gara Falls, N.Y., recently vis ited Mr. and Mrs. James Ca pello. Mrs. Capello is a grand daughter . of Mrs. Hansen. While here the Capellos took Mrs. Hansen on several scenic tours of the local area, includ ing. Crater lake. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Pingle celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary recently in Med ford. Guests attending were Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Pingle, Mr. and Mrs. Alan Pingle and Bruce Pingle, Jr. An : assembly was held Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the high school auditorium for both grade school and high school students. Melville gave a demonstration on glass blowing and glass knitting through the National Assem blies Science Program. . " Mr.', and Mrs. M. H. Pingle have left to spend the winter in Los Angeles. Their son, Alan Pingle, will manage Mil Mar Ranch in their absence. " Mrs. Alan Pingle will en roll at Southern Oregon col lege this fall as a junior. Mrs. Pingle will major in elemen tary education.
