Fund Raising Drive For Scouts Gets
The 1960 local fund raising
campaign of the Crater Lake
Council, Boy Scouts of Amer
ica, was launched Sept. 10
with local meetings held in
each participating community
Council President J. A. Mc
Dougall has announced.
Funds obtained by more
than 1,000 volunteers will
make possible the continuation
and expansion of the scouting
program, he noted.
Spearheading the drive con
ducted within Jackson county
outside the area covered by
the United Fund, is R. A.
Naumes, Medford, who will
serve as chairman, forking
with him in charge of their
local communities are C. J.
Malloy, Butte Falls; Robert
Force, Gold Hill; D?.vid Harbi
son, Eagle Point; and Mel Ro
chester, Prospect.
Receives Charter
McDougall stated that the
Crater Lake Council receives
its charter each year from the
National Council of Boy
Scouts and that area leaders
determine what budget is re
quired for the coming year.
The same volunteers, he add
ed, have the responsibility of
carrying out the local finance
campaign.
The Crater Xake Council is
headquartered at 500 East
Main st., Medford, under the
direction of Scout Executive
J. W. Compton, and directs
scouting programs for Jose
phine, Jackson and Siskiyou
counties. Within the council
are 4,000 boys enrolled as ac
tive members and 1,500 volun
teer leaders.
The need for funds has been
intensified with the addition
of the new Exploring program,
open to all boys of high school
age, McDougall pointed out.
Participating in this program,
which includes personal fit
ness, social, vocational explor
ation, outdoor activities, citi
zenship, and seryice exper
iences, are 300 boys in 27 units
