HAZEL STANLEY Hornbrook Funeral serv ices for Mrs. Hazel Smith Stanley, 62, of Dunsmuir were held Saturday afternoon, Aug. 15, at the First Methodist church in Dunsmuir with the Rev. O. A. Terrell officiating. Mrs. Stanley died Aug. 13 at the Mt. Shasta Community hospital. She was born Aug. 28, 1896,. in Hornbrook and was the last of the family of Delbert B. Smith and Grace Carrie Meamber, both mem bers of pioneer families. She had resided in Duns muir since 1917 and was a past president of the Mrs. J. A. Fillmore division of the Grand International auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Locomo tive Engineers. She also was a charter member of the Sis kiyou county chapter of the Native Daughters of the Gold en West. Survivors include her hus band, Ernest Stanley, a re tired railroad engineer, of Dunsmuir, and a daughter, Miss Grace Stanley, of Red ding. Burial was in the family plot in the Henley-Hornbrook cemetery. Girdner's Funeral chapel in Yreka was in charge of funeral arrangements. ALBERT B. SYRING Albert B. Syring died at the Veterans domiciliary at Camp White this morning. He was a veteran of World War I. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Perl Funeral home. CORA MITCHELL Mrs. Cora Mitchell, former ly of Medford and Hilts, Calif., died Monday, in Anti och, Calif., a family friend reported. Her husband, Bert, died a few years ago. Mrs. Mitchell had lived in Medford while her husband1 was a sawyer at Medford Lumber corporation. The cou ple also ran a motel at Hilts for several years. Mrs. Mitchell is survived by one sister, Mrs. Bess Pat terson of Portland. EDNA M. GABIE Mrs. Edna Marie Gabie, of Gold Hill, died this morning in a local hospital. The late buying brought some issues back sharply from their lows but losses of a point or more were liberally sprinkled throughout the main list. At the lows for the day, in dividual losses ran past 4 and 5 points in some stocks. The autos, chemicals, oils, air crafts, rails, steels, nonfer rous metals, tires and drugs all stood out on the downside. Curtiss-Wright was a bright spot all day, rising around 5 at its high after directors maintained the quarterly div idend. DuPont was weak in the chemicals, while Ameri can Home Products and Vick featured the downside in the drugs. i ! Natl Biscuit ....... .... 53 Portland To Talk Explosive Storage' P6rtland-(UPD-The city coun cil today set Sept. 10 as a date for . hearing on an ordinance which would restrict storage of explosives in Portland. Revival of the ordinance was prompted by the Aug. 7 explosion at Roseburg. The ordinance failed to pass in June of 1955. It would amend the " city fire code. Amendments would prohibit holding and keeping of explosives and of railroad cars containing liquified petro leum within a distance of half mile from Union station buildings and Willamette riv er bridges. They also would provide for examination of records showing arrival times of such explosive materials in the city. SIMPLE SOLUTION Buffalo, N.Y.-flJPD-Joseph B. Hilts, 65, reported to police that he'd been robbed of his car and $300. But at the police station, he found he still had has wallet and 115 in his pocket. Then he remembered that he'd spent the rest of the money. The missing car was still a mystery until police returned to the tavern from which Hilts had called them. There they found the parked auto. Then they arrested Hilts for drunkenness. But one daughter, Antonina, was too old to be admitted as a minor child. While Antonina waited impatiently in Palermo for permission to enter the U.S. under a immigration quota, Mrs. Patronaggio got busy. She showed her daughter's picture to a Buffalo neighbor, Anthony Minutto, 27, who when to visit the girl and mar ried her. Neuberger (D-Ore.) to re-name ' the nroDosed Green Peter dam in Oregon Douglas McKay dam in honor of the late interior secretary. The Senate also passed a bill by Neuberger Xo speed up acquisition of the Klamath Marsh in Oregon by the Fish and Wildlife Service. ' The measure to rename Green Peter dam now goes to the House.
