'i 1 '; 1 i i f I I ! i i I I ft n i Alabama Man Is Sentenced Here Lindel Worth Messer, 23, of Alabama, was sentenced to not more than 2V2 years m the Oregon state penitentiary Friday by Circuit Court Judge James Main. Messer was arrested July 13 on a charge of burglary not in a dwelling. Messer and two ethers, James E. Quates, 23, and David S. Quates, 26, both from Alabama, were charged with, the theft of t'res and other property from the O. K. Rubber Welders, Ashland. The Quates brothers are being held in county jail, awaiting a o-e-senteacing re port. Neal Patrick Chatterton, Ashland, was remanded to the sheriff Friday in circuit court, until the court decides what action to take. He is being held here on a charge of pos session of a gambling device but he is on probation in California. In other circuit court action Friday, Eugene Horace Thom- ason, 18, and Ronald William Kreamier,' 19, Ft. Lewis, Wash., were placed on proba tion. They were charged, with grand larceny in connection with the theft of a car here July 14. District Attorney .Thomas Reeder said that both boys had otherwise clear records and asked the court for leni ency on their behalf. Judge Main suspended the imposi tion of - a sentence for 18 months. Reeder said he thought they both had mili tary charges pending against them as a result of their ar rest here. Japan maintains its lead with the world's largest com mercial fishing fleet. Petition Seeks Change In Precinct Boundary A petition, signed by 26 residents of West 10th, 11th and Laurel sts., has been sub mitted to County Clerk Mar vin Madden. . The signers, all Tesidents of Precinct 41, request that the precincts be rearranged so that they will be able to vote at the county courthouse, a distance of two blocks away, rather than at Medford High school. Forester Flown To Get Treatment Missoula, Mont-tDPD-Region-al forest service headquarters said here Saturday that Alva Blackerby, Nez Perce forest supervisor, was flown from Grangeville, Idaho, to Port land for treatment of burns he suffered last Tuesday in a plane crash. Blackerby and two . other men were burned and two smokejumpers were fatally in jured in the crash of a forest service - chartered plane that crashed while landing at the remote Moos creek ranger sta tion in the Nez Perce forest. He says there's noth ing to it. " But, after .the birth of the Johnson's first child, Mrs. Jorison reported that "he was in the delivery room and I heard one of the doctors say, 'You'd better get Mr. Johnson out of here. I think he's going to faint'." Centennial Queen Reported Aground Portland (UPD The Centen nial Queen was reported to have run aground on a sand j har just west of the Oregon grounds Saturday afternoon. The Centennial Queen, which has been plying be tween a downtown berth in the Willamette river and the Centennial grounds, was mak ing one of its last runs to the Exposition. It was to cease operations 1 today to the Exposition grounds because of low water. No one was reported hurt in the grounding. . EXHIBIT PHOTO RIPPED . Moscow -(UPD- American Ex hibition officials said Friday that two photographs in the exhibit's "Family of Man" dis play were torn down by- a Nigerian visitor who imme diately was taken into custody by Soviet police.
