Manned Trips to Mars Anticipated Los Angeles-(UPD-The head of a major U.S. space explora tion program Wednesday fore saw the sending of three manned space ships to Mars or Venus some time after 1970. Dr. Krafft Ehricke, chief of Project Centaur, said his studies showed that three ships, all nuclear -powered, are necessary for deep space probes. - "Three ships will provide for safety, reliability and emergency use," he said. "Two of them would be manned with the third carrying sup plies and emergency equip ment.' ' . The two manned ships would carry four men each, he told a press conference at the conclusion of the two day western meeting of the American Astronautical So ciety. The Convair astronautics scientist said nuclear power was necessary because chemi cally propelled rockets would take too long-"on the order ' of three years" for the round trip mission. "The greater power, avail able with "nuclear propulsion .will cut the time down to about a year. Any longer than that and we have to worry about how long men and equipment will hold up," he said. Ehricke said the early 1970s was the "rock-bottom" time when such missions will be possible. 10,000 Children May Die in Mishaps Farso. N.D. Children in pre-school and early school years are threat ened most by traffic. Try to make sure these children are always within reach and nev er take your eyes off them when they are moving. To remove it " from your car without damag ing the finish, Davey tree ex perts recommend washing with warm soapy water.
