Wall Street Chatter New York-IDPD-Wall Street is mulling over the possibili ties of the forthcoming visit of Premier Khrushchev to the U. S. and President Eisenhow er's visit to the U.S.S.R. Sidney B. Lurie, analyst for Josephthal and company says if the visits are successful they could set in motion a chain of speculative thinking to the effect that: 1. An easing of cold war tensions will open up a new era of world progress and world trade; and 2. More immediately, it would also mean a ceiling to our $40-odd billion defense budget which has been so important a con tributor' to the nation's over all prosperity. During July 60 com panies increased dividends,-51 declared extras, and 12 re sumed dividends. Three Youths Are Rescued irom Surf Seaview, Wash.- (LTD -Three voune oersons. members of a Colby Methodist church group camping at Beards Hollow near here, narrowly escaped drowninsf when one of them ventured too far out in the surf and the other two went to his rescue. ? Authorities said Ernest Szeen, South Colby, got too far out in the surf, and Jo Ellen Geier and Dorothy Had welL'Port Orchard, tried to rescue him. They ran into difficulty, but managed to get to shallow water by the time hastily summoned Coast Guardsmen arrived. The Coast Guardsmen and Deputy Sheriff George Malt- man took them to llwaco, where a doctor treated them for' shock, then sent them to the Ocean Beach hospital. They were released yester day. Neuberger Defends Proposed Change Washineton-IUPD-Sen. Rich ard L. Neuberger (D-Ore.) to day defended his bill to rhanee the name of the pro posed Green Peter dam in Oregon to Douglas Mciiay dam in honor of the late inte rior secretary. - Neuberger said some Demo cratic party leaders in tne state had wired or written him in criticism of his pro posal. "I do not think that political grudges should endure beyond the grave. Douglas McKay was an active sponsor of the ' Willamette Basin project, of which Green Peter dam is a key unit." in effect for so long, will not be broken. Interchemical Corp. 1959 earnings should be comforta bly in excess of $3.50 a share by 1960, says Bache and com pany. It estimates the firm will show net of $3.25 a share this year -against $2.15 last year and believes the divit dend will be raised at least once again within the next year. Suggest Changed Differential Washington-(UPD-The chair man of the Federal Maritime board recommended Wednes day that -a differential de signed to stimulate shipbuild ing on the wes coast be re duced 'om 6 to 4 per r ent. Clare. -c G. Morse, the chairman, told a House hear ing that "in reality" the dif ferential averages approxi mately 4 per cent anyway. Morse testifed b' r v he House Merchant Marir and Fisheries committee as the group opened an inquiry into a growing dispute between the east and west coasts. Under ; resent law, the 'ed- eral government mu-t award a shipbuilding contract to a west .coast job if that firm's offer is within 6 per cent of the low bid. Morse said he would be op posed to eliminating the 6 per cent differential altogether, but said it might well be re duced to 4 per cent. The dispute arose recently when Todd Shipyard com pany of Long Beach, Calif., insisted on being awarded . a contract to build three ships for jnerican Mail Lines, a west coast concern, despite the fact that Newport News Shipbuilding compa y of Vir ginia had submitted a lower bid..' The Maritime board, acting on . a ruling from the comp troller general in favor of Todd, Wednesday formally awarded the American Mail contract to the Long Beach concern. Court of Appeals Revokes Its Order In Television Case San Francisco - (UPD. - The 9th Circuit of the U. S. Court of . Appeals : Wednesday re voked -its order allowing Montana Micr-n"ave to con tinue giving television service to Helena, Mont., in the face of a Federal Communications Commission " order that it stop. ' The court said that Helena T.V. Inc., which brought the case here, sought action be fore the wrong tribunal. It said the case should have been ' filed before the Court of Appeals in Washington, D. C; , The FCC granted Montana Microwave permission last January to serve Helena TV, Inc., which operates a com munity antenna system, but the commission revoked the authorization Jun 24 while further consideration was to be give i to the case. Slays Order The court here temporar ily stayed the commission order July 8 and heard oral arguments Tuesday. It . said the appeal was brought under the wrong clause in the law and that if it were to be brought under the proper clause the dispute must go to the . .peals tri bunal iri Washington which has exclusive jurisdiction ovr . such questions.. The court here also noted that the appeal here was re lated to an appeal in the same case previously dealt with by the court in Washington. Max D. Paglin, FCC attor ney said Tuesday while argu ing f or dismissal on the juris dictional question that Helena TV, Inc., would have until Aug. 12 to transfer the appeal turned down here to the Washington court. PEA-TIFUL REPORT Chicago (UPD The Canned Pea Council reported today that persons who eat peas with a knife must pick up 60 knife-fulls to eat a one-pound can of peas. The council said the average can contains 902 peas; the average pea-eating knife has a five inch blade and will hold 15 peas. It figures two peas probably will be dropped. About 687 days are requir ed for Mars to make a com plete circuit of the sun.
