McAllister has an nounced that the Supreme Court has adjourned until aft er Labor day. Several of the justices, it was reported, will remain here during August, working on pending cases and will be available to handle any new matters needing im mediate attention. Justice McAllister reported that since the first of the year the court's backlog has been reduced by 42 cases. This has resulted in a reduction of about 20 per cent in the num ber of cases at issue awaiting oral argument. The waiting period for cases on the docket compared to a year ago has been re duced by six months, due to services of two circuit court judges being appointed as jus tices pro tem for the past five months. The first seven months of this year is the first comparable period since 1951 that has seen a reduction in the number of cases pending in the Supreme Court instead of an increase, Justice McAl lister said. Two other circuit judges have been ' selected to serve during the remainder of the year to assist in clearing up the court's docket.
