Thursday, July 30, 19S9 PR kwv v5 n n i n in rin if a I I ' , VANCE 'PINTO' COLVIG Returns to Jacksonville Vance Colvig To Attend Gold Rush Jubilee Jacksonville - Vance "Pin to" Colvig, Hollywood, will return to him home' town this week end to take part in the Jacksonville Gold Rush Jubi lee as the official host. Colvig, who was born in Jacksonville in 1892, attend ed schools in Jacksonville' and Medford and later Oregon State college before joining the L. G. Barnes circus. He worked for a San Fran cisco newspaper, where he met Walt Disney, and with his ver satile voice assisted the pro ducer in creating Pluto the Pup and later provided the voices of Grumpy and Sleepy in Disney's "Snow White." He has since been the voice of many other characters on screen and radio and has made many tours throughout the country. The "village clown," as he describes himself, is listed in Who's Who as one of the pio neers in animated cartoons. He performs for Capital Rec ords as Bozo the Clown. Sixty years ago he sang in "Jacksonville in the "Old Opry House" in the U. S. Hotel. He ia working on a book-length manuscript "Clowns i s People," mostly a story of his "kidhood days in Jackson ville." The Phoenix Lion club through courtesy of Dick Knight company have provid ed a car for Colvig during his stay. He is to arrive Friday morning. Students On Honor Roll at University Salem - Two Medford High school graduates, Sonja Peter son and Stan Culy, have earn ed places on the Willamette university .honor roll for spring semester. - Miss Peterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Peterson of 2574 Jacksonville highway, Medford, is majoring in piano. She has served as president of Mu Phi Epsilon, national music honorary, and as a member of choir and orches tra. She is also active in Pi Beta Phi sorority . and has been a class officer. Culy, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gale Culy, 21 Wash ington st., Medford, received his bachelor's degree in phil osophy last June. His campus activities included the vice presidency of the student body and of the Oregon Methodist Student Movement. He was tapped for Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Sigma Tau honoraries. ' He was alleged to have ; called at the fire station one night with his friend Alibino Ongom, with an offer to sell Ongom to Fire Chief W. D. Flint for 75 pounds ($120). . Bua denied the charge, claiming he was looking for ' a job and counter-charged - that if he refused to sell his friend, both of them would be eaten. - Bua was remanded to a higher court. The belief that the fire de partment is a cannibal sect originated in East Africa about 20 years ago, when the bright red fire engines were first introduced. Their appearance coincided - with a sales drive by a meat canning firm. To attract Af rican custom, the firm used a bright red wrapper with the picture of a smiling Afri can bead on it.
