J : 1 1 i 5 GRAND VIEW Attend Homecoming Bt LILLIAN KNIGHT Grandview - Mrs. William Underwood, accompanied by her daughter, Laurie, attend ed homecoming Sunday at St. Vincents school of nursing in Portland. Underwood drove them to Portland, returning the first of the week. Mrs. Underwood and Laurie re turned the middle of the week. Mrs. John x McKinney re ; turned home from the hos pital Wednesday after a stay of about 10 days. She is in bed but is allowed to have visitors. Saturday, July 11, a sur prise baby shower of unusual character in which the father rather than the mother was honoree. was given by Mrs William Underwood at the Underwood home. Dale Pratt, the new father, received sev eral gifts for the baby. Guests were- Norman Thomas. William Underwood, Fred Underwood, Fred Stev ens, Bud Greb, Bud Mark, Vaughn Keyser, and Tun un derwood. Mrs. Harold Greb, Mrs. Vaughn Keyser and Laurie and Linda Underwood helped Mrs. Underwood with the re freshments. The daughter of the Pratts, born July 6, has been named Carla Ann. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Mc Kinney and their three chil dren of Marvsville, Cain., are visiting her parents, Mr. and 1 Mrs. Guy Stearns, former res idents of this community now of Rose ave. Mrs. McKinney is the former Myrna Stearns, and the two families are now vacationing in Canada. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Thames and eiht-month-old son, Tim my and Jack Ingwerolon, brother of Mrs. Thames, all of Garden Grove, Calif., return- 'ed to their home Monday, July 13, after visiting here with his parents, Mr. and . Mrs. Norman Thames. The two families and Ingwerolon, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Harris, and Mrs. Bob Burton and children, Butch, Button, and Camela, spent a recent week end at Diamond lake. On the following Sunday a family picnic reunion din ner was held at Lake of the Woods with members water skiing. Mr. and Mrs. Bozy Tapovic of Gold Hill, Mrs. Ray Jones and children, Butch and Shir ley, of Medf ord, and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pappas and chil dren, Debbie and Dara, of Diamond lake, were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Chamberlin. They all went to TouVelle park for a picnic lunch and in the evening went to Ashland. Butch Jones visited the Chamberlins for a week be fore returning to his home. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Norris recently returned home after a months vacation to Kansas City and Independence, Mo., where they visited a brother-in-law and sister of Mrs. Nor ris and other relatives. They t visited in the states of Cali fornia, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. They took in the Grand Canyon, Glacier National and the Grand Teton National parks, Yosemite National park, the Painted Desert and Petrified forest in Arizona, Yellow stone National park, and the Salt River canyoa in Arizona. They ' visited the Indian reservations in Arizona and New Mexico. Mrs. Fred Norris, Jr., and her five children are vaca tioning and visiting her par ents in Beverly Hills, Calif. Students Complete Safety Aid Course Ten students recently com pleted the Red Cross water safety aid course given at the YMCA under the direction of Mrs. Lanell Wilkes. The ' course qualifies . them to as sist a swimming instructor during all phases of teach ing. Those completing the course were Nancy Donahue, Nona Donahue, Bill Dames, Sharie Forde, Ron Gandee, Linda Nelson, Anita Ritchey, Re becca Rowan, Linda Wilkes and Marsha Williams. Assisting Mrs. Wilkes dur ing the course were Mimi Jones, Robert Allen, and Wil ard Harwood, ; who recently received leader examiner cer tificates at the YMCA aqua tic institute in Eugene. Chicago Firm ); Films Gold Mining" A Chicago film producer. Tod Stronquist, was scheduled to take pictures Saturday of , "gold mining' at the frontier mining town of Gold Gulch at Hidden Valley ranch, ac cording to co-owner LaRue Morris. : Stronquist told Morris the film is to be included in an educational movie. Gold Gulch, a replica of an early day gold mining town, is located on Hidden Valley ranch off Highway 99 be tween Central Point and Gold HilL - ' Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Ben nett and daughter, Pat, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., were recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Nel son and Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Underwood and family. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Leland Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Nelson, and other relatives in the valley. Bennett is an animal trainer for a movie studio in Hollywood. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Nel son recently made a trip to Los Angeles and Los Vegas, Nev., to visit relatives. They have purchased the Robert Sutton property on- Spring brook rd. and are now in their new home. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Nel son are in their new home on Lone Pine rd. recently pur chased from Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gibson. MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Or. Sunday, July 26, 1959 5 13 Disease Cases Reported Last Week Thirteen cases of commu nicable diseases were report ed to -the Jackson County Health department for the week ending July 24, accord ing to Dr. A. Erin Merkel, public health physician. Influenza accounted for the majority of the cases, with Ashland reporting three cases and Medford and Shady Cove two each. . Other, diseases were two cases of German measles in Medford, and one of measles. Ashland reported one case each of pneumonia, strep throat, and infectious mononucleosis. Attend Conference Two Medford optometrists participated in a three-day seminar on clinical and ex perimental . optometry. July 24-26, at Pacific university college of optometry, Forest Grove. Dr. William J. Thompson and Dr. Richard D.
