Other north south winners were Mrs. J. J. Dougherty and Tom Munds, second, 79; and Mrs. A. W. Lingaas and Mrs. Berg Mar ten, third, 73. East-west winners were Mrs. W. C. Knope and Mrs. Fred Rehling, first, 68V&; Joseph Clark and Don Rever man, second, 67; and Tom Randall and Milton Stafford, third, 63. Son Leaves Richard Hanawalt left Fri day by United Airlines for Palm Springs, Calif., to visit Mr. and Mrs. Merle Scott and son, Tom, former Medford residents. He will be absent a week. Richard is the son of Dr. and Mrs. E. M. Hanawalt, 341 South Oakdale avenue. Baptist Women At Session of Mission Society Three Medford women from the Eastwood Baptist church attended the Houseparty' for Woman's Baptist Mission So ciety of Oregon which was held on, the campus of Lin- field college in McMinnville July 20-22. They were Mrs. Carol Gra ber, president of the Woman's Mission society; Mrs. Stanley Martin, chairman, Marietta circle; and Mrs. S. D. Earhart, state chairman of missionary and stewardship education. Theme of 'the gathering, "This is my task," was high lighted by Mrs. Wade McKin- ney, Cleveland, Ohio, vice president of Christian Serv ice, National Council of Am erican Baptist Women. Mrs. McKinney, a Negro, is wife of the pastor of Baptist Antioch church in Cleveland and mother of two sons and a daughter, including a minis ter in Seattle, a physician and a daughter, who with her hus band, is in full-time Christian work. The speaker has been select ed by the American Baptist Foreign Mission board to go around the world to visit all Baptist mission fields. Mrs. McKinney stressed the great need for more church women to take an active part in community welfare and urged that every Christian woman be a registered and active voter. The Bible teacher and lead er each morning was Mrs, Herbert Beatty, wife of the pastor of the First Baptist church. Seattle and the presi dent of the Baptist Woman's Society of Washington. Missionary speaker was Mrs. Howard Houston, San Jose, Antique Province Philip pines, who with her family is home on furlough. She inform ed the wpmen of the work be ing done in mission fields in the Philippines. Mrs. H. J. Westberg, Eu gene, a member of Our Re deemer Lutheran church, pre sented the home mission study books for the year, "The Church's Mission Town and Country." Mrs. Roy-Fedje, Rose City Methodist church, Portland, gave the overseas mission study, "Africa.'J She stated that the books on Africa this year are outstanding in both information and ease of read ing. Mrs. J. M. Hammerly, Port land, president of the Ameri can Baptist Woman's Mission Society of Oregon, was in charge of the meetings. 4 Election Held By Beagle Club Mrs. Alberta Haas was elected president for Beagle Community club at their an nual picnic held July 19 at TouVelle State park. Other officers elected were Mrs. Alvin Greb, vice presi dent; and Mrs. Marshall Sweet, secretary-treasurer. The Beagle club was organ ized in 1944 and members are persons who lived in the Beagle area prior to the time the Army firing range was located there" during World War II. R. H. Seigmiller spoke and James A. Martin was the old est member present who was born at Beagle. Stephen Ellis, son of R. J. Ellis, was the youngest member present who was born there. Attending the picnic were 80 members. The event will be held next year on the third Sunday in July. MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Or. Sunday, July 26, 19S9 A Islands Provide Sorority Topic; Reports Given Members of Epsilon Sigma Alpha met last Monday at the home of Miss DeMaris Glutsch and were taken on an imagin ary trip to Hawaii as part of their educational program. Miss' Peggy Moore, a form er resident of Hawaii and a guest, demonstrated the na tive hula dance. She spoke ou typical 4sland life. Mrs. Willie Fischer mod eled native clothes loaned by Burelsbn's, and pointed out that vacationers attempt to dress like the islanders. Highlights of the interna tional convention recently held in Portland were given by Mrs. Robert Shangle and Mrs. Richard Harrison.' Nine members from Medford were in attendance. Mrs. Leon Landry, Eugene, was elected international re cording secretary. Phoenix, Ariz, was chosen as next year's hostess city. - Governor Mark Hatfield welcomed the delegation of over 500 members at the first assembly. Mrs. Grant Chase, member of a Eugene chapter who was Oregon's candidate for "Mrs. America" was also a speaker. Mrs. L. R. Dressier, whose son David was sponsored by the chapter for a stay at Camp Easter seal, was a guest and reported on the advant ages derived from activities and social life there for crippled children. David, who is 10 years old, gained many experiences from his stay at camp along with about 50 other children, she said. Camp Easter Seal Is located in Coos County and is maintained by funds raised from the sale of Easter seals each year. Former Warden Is Visitor Here Mr. and Mrs. William Evers, their, son-in-law, Clarence Smith and his daughter, Ev eyln, were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. N. F. Gier, 2902 North Pacific highway. The travelers were en route to their home at Green Riv er, Wyo., after a trip into Alaska. Mr. Evers is widely known as a. former warden of the Wyoming state penitentiary, and former mayor of Green River. He drafted and en forced the first laws concern ing control of door-to-door selling which are now known as the "Green River laws." Ashland Doctor To Be Speaker Dr. A. M. Hill, Ashland, will speak on "Oxygen Ther apy" . at the next meeting of Licensed Practical Nurses' association. It will be held Monday, July 27, at 7:30 p.m. at Rogue Valley Memorial hospital.
