I want to look up to him. , .. Cliff L. My girl friend and I are having a big squabble about me. We are both. 16 and just finished our sophomore year at high school. Millie is a very good student. She gets mostly A's and a few B's. I get mostly B's and a few C's. I don't mind this but Millie does. She claims it is embarras- sing to her to go out with a guy who isn't up to her level in school. She wants me to be come a grind. She says that if I don't do better next year, she's going to give me up. - think this is ridiculous. Millie J.- It may sound ridiculous to Cliff but it's im portant to me. Any girl will know what I mean. A 1 girl likes to go out with a man she can look up to. It's like want ing someone taller than you are. I wouldn't bother Cliff about this if I weren't positive he could do it. He's got a brain, but just won't bother with the subjects he's not interested in. He doesn't even work hard at the ones he likes. School is just a lark to him. We think Cliff may have something to gain by trying to meet his girl's standards, but in all fairness we do not think she is quite justified in her demands. Millie .may be a smart girl, but she still has a lot of things to learn and one of them is that it is foolish to set rigid standards for others. It is fine to set them for ourselves be cause , we know or should know what we want out of life and what sacrifices we are willing to make to get . them, but we can't decide this for others. - - Maybe Cliff could get bet ter marks in school, but only he can decide whether it would be worth while to take whatever additional time may be required from the sports and music he enjoys. It is very likely that the time he now invests in these things will bring him even greater re wards in later life in addi tion to the pleasure it now af fords. When a person does some thing purely to gratify anoth er it rarely works out. well. East Lansing, Mich.-flJPD-Agriculture is a tremendously promising field for college freshman seeking to train themselves for a career, ac cording to Dr. Harold J. Las- siter, head of Michigan State University's dairy depart ment. Lassiter said there were be tween 14,000 and 15,000 jobs available ifithe industry this June for' college graduates who majored in agriculture and only about 7,000 students to fill them. Only a few of these jobs are actually on the farm, he added, most being in agri cultural education, economics and research.
