Learn received a slight cut on the forehead, police reported. 1 Bartlett at Grass, Brush Fires Reported An eruption of grass and brush fires hit the Medford area like a heat rash yester day, causing little damage but keeping firemen busy at the hot spots. A brush fire broke -out about 11:30 a.rrr: yesterday on Bear creek just north of Head rd. It was extinguished and then broke out again at 3:30 p.m. and was put out once more. About two acres of grass and brush were burned but two tankers, a pumper and 12 men were called out before the blaze was finally killed. A , Grass Fire A grass fire burned approx imately three-quarters of an acre on Sonth Pacific high way near radio station KDOV yesterday afternoon. No other damage was reported. At 6 o'clock last night three acres of grass burned at the Medford city dump in the Object-A vehicle, operated by Grace Taylor Bostwick, box 101, star route, Ashland, hit a fire hydrant at the inter section of Eighth st. and Riv erside ave. during the week end, city police reported. Ross Lumber company burned a half -acre area at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon. At 1:20 pjn. yesterday grass and sawdust burned along a 100-foot section of ditch at Agate and Antelope rds. About the same time, a grass fire at the rear of 3734 Crater Lake highway was be ing extinguished. No damage was reported. Just before 4 o'clock yester day afternoon, a shed at 473 Head rd. suffered fire damage. And at 8 o'clock last night the Medford fire department was called to extinguish an after-hours trash fire on Val ley View dr.. Boshears, who died Sat urday, will be held Wednes day at 9:30 a.m. in the Conger Morris Funeral home. The Rev. James W. Neely of the First Baptist church will offi ciate. Committal will be m IOOF cemetery. Mrs. Boshears was born May 29, 1885, in Lawrence, Kan., and in November, 1906, at Huntsville, Tenn., she mar ried Jerome T. Boshears, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Boshears had lived in Med ford for the past 30 years and had been a member of the Baptist church for more than 30 years. Survivors include one son, Miner T. Boshears; 'two daugh ters, Mrs. James Blaylock and Martha Boshears, all of Med ford; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. MARY MAYBELLE EWING Graveside services for Mary MayBelle Ewing, 86, who died Monday, will be held at the Masonic cemetery, Eugene, Thursday at 10 a.m. Ashland Mortuary is in charge of fu neral arrangements. Mrs. Ewing was born Nov. 20, 1872, in South Dakota. Her husband, John A Ewing, preceded her in death. She came to Ashland 18 months ago and had been living at 285 High st. Survivors include a daugh ter, Mrs. MayBelle Koberg, Tecate, Calif.; a son, J. T. Ewing, Saskatchewan, Cana da; two brothers, A. B. Ander son, Springfield, Ore., and T. C. Anderjon, Mira Loma, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. H. B. Crockett, Long Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. RUTH A. THOMAS THOMPSON Funeral services for Thom as Thompson, 74, who died Saturday, will be held at Conger-Morris Funeral home Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. Committal will be at sunset in Memory Gardens Memorial park. Mr. Thompson was born July 31, 1886, in Sidney, Neb., and on Dec. 17, 1922, at North Platte, Neb., he mar ried Carolyn Boyd, wno sur vives. Mr. Thompson had lived in Jacksonville for the past 28 years. Individual gains ran past 5 points at, the highs in some issues. Litton, Motorola, A m p e x and Zenith were strong in the electronics. DATS ON Funeral services for Roy Gilbert Datson, of 525 North Riverside ave., who died Sim day, will be held at Conger Morris Funeral home Thurs day at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. James W. Neely of the First Baptist church will officiate. Committal will be private at Siskiyou crematory. Mr. Datson was born April 22, 1883 in Stanton, Mich., and came to Oregon with his par ents in 1888. He was in Alas ka from 1914 to 1930, and came to Medford in 1949, from Portland. He was a member of the Masonic and Elks lodges in Juneau, Alaska, since 1920. Survivors include a daugh ter, Mrs. W. L. Dusenbury, of Medford; his mother, Mabel Bradford; his father, James F. Datson; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Bradner and Mrs. Ruth Rabb, Portland; two grand sons, Carl and James, and a nephew, Bradford Datson. JULIA PIERCE Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Cecilia Pierce, 86, for merly of 365 Charlotte Anne rd., who died in Jacksonville Friday, will be held at 10:30 ajn. Wednesday in Chapel Mortuary. Mrs. Pierce, .the daughter of Elias and Sarah Hillery Slov er, was born in Oregon City on Aug. 10, 1872. She was m-jried in Jackson county on July 5. 1890, to Edwin Pierce, who preceded her in death in Medford in 1933. Mrs. Fierce has been a resident oi Med ford for the past 28 years. Survivors include two sis ters, Mrs. Elld Minick, of Cen tral Point, and Mrs. Anne Mavfield.
