3 Indian Hospital To Close Sept. 1 Washington-OTO-The Public Health Service announced !. Thursday that its Indian Hos pital at Tacoma, Wash., will ' be closed by Sept.,1. The hospital has been used as a tubercular sanitarium, . primarily for Alaskan natives. The service said there now . is a surplus of beds for tuber " culosis patients in Alaska and the Northwest. It said the de cline in the patient load at the Tacoma hospital makes its continued operation imprac tical. The service said that pa tients not ready to be dis charged at the time of the closing would be moved to other hospitals nearer their homes. We are three sisters all married and moderately comfortable. Our mother has lived with me for the past four years and my sisters have contributed to her support. Now we find it necessary to place mother in a nursing home. My sister Jean and want to place her in the best home we can find.. That will mean a larger contribution from each of us. My sister Vivian says she won't increase her contribution and pleads hardship. Jean and I happen to know this is ridiculous. She is the best off of all of us and even bought a mink stole last year. She'll do things like that and then begrudge our mother decent conditions in her last years. Vivian S. Betty and Jean have always ganged up on me, believing I have more things in life than they have. The truth is "that my, hubsand makes no more than theirs, but it is important for his bus iness that we socialize a great deal. For this, I have to have clothes and keep up my home. When they visit my home my sisters eye each other, as if to say. "She must be rolling in dough. Wow, are they living it up!" Then they go home and think up ideas like this thing of the most expensive nursing home they can find. They don't mind if they have to cut a little skin off then own backs as long as they get my hide. , Maybe I'm selfish, stingy and ah ungrateful daughter, but it looks to me as though the cheaper homes are good enough. ! Tho Council: It would be al most impossible for any out sider to judge the fairness or unf ariness of the two sisters' accusations. Nobody can de cide for anyone else how big a sacrifice actually is or how big it ought to be. It is possible that Vivian's mink stole is important to the future of her family. Even if it were important only to her happiness, this factor is a valid consideration. Vivian . is not being accused of total neglect of her mother. They should confront Vivian with certain actualities in the situation, showing how their mother will be consider ably better off in the more expensive place. They should do this in a simple, objective manner, avoiding the appear ance of pressuring Vivian to make a decision. If .Vivian still feels that her own requirements are more urgent than her mother's, the two sisters must simply face the fact that they'll have to do without Vivian's addition al help. Indian Gathering To Open Saturday Pendleton-(DHr-The Nation al Indian Encampment that opens here Saturday will beckon visitors with smoke signals, but the old fire and blanket system has been ruled out. Centennial officials said the smoke signals will be pro duced with World War LT-type smoke grenades. The signals will begin Friday. .
