forced to lounge around their
hotel here most bf the day

FLUID FLYER-Colleen Dodge of Sacramento, Calif., is
listed among the hoped-for total of 100 water skiers for
this week end's two-day meet at Gardener Lake. Colleen
last year was second in slalom and jumping and fourth
in tricks in junior girls' regional competition. Sponsor
of the meet is the Gardener Lake Water Ski club. About
1000 spectators are expected to be at the lake Saturday
and Sunday.

last July; miler Jim Grelle,
who went the 1,500-meter dis
tance in the same meet a year
ago; veteran Bill uemnger,
who lost a hair-line decision
the first time the Americans
and Russians met; and rookie
Dyrol Burleson, national AAU
1,500 -meter champion. Ed
strom and Grelle left Tuesday
for 'the meet. Dellinger and
Burleson left this morning.

Fishing Was Fair
At Lake Last Week
Fishing was reported as fair
at Diamond Lake last week,
with best catches being made
on trolling flatfish or flies.

date has been a nine-pounder,

The weather last week at
the lake was cool but it
warmed up for the week end.

A wet week end is on tap
for area residents this Sat
urday and Sunday when the
Gardener Lake Water Ski
club makes its annual splash.
Local novice skiers are es
pecially invited.
The two-day meet has at
tracted champion skiers from
Seattle, Portland, Eugene
and California points-with
entries still flowing in-but a
special appeal is made to local
skiers. ,
Cliff McGinty, club secre
tary, said that novice events
are not often scheduled and
that this is a good opportunity
for area ski enthusiasts to
enter competition.
Those who want to test
their water wings can pick
up application blanks at
Skinner's Buick - Cadillac
agency.
A crowd of about 1000 Is
expected at Gardener Lake
this week end to watch the
motorized mermaids slide
through slalom, trick, jump
and speed skiing.
A hoped-for 100 skiers will
be in the competitive swim,
with men's, women's and
junior classes represented.
Registration deadline is 7
a.m. Saturday.
Entry fee for juniors (under
15) is $3 and for those over
15 it is $5. These amounts in
clude insurance.
A one-dollar admission fee
has been placed for specta
tors, with . 50 cents set for
those under 18. Free admis
sion will be made for those
under 8 years.

land tonight for Stratford,
Conn., to perform with an all-
start women's softball team
against the Raybestos Brak-
ettes, world women's softball
champions.
Miss Mazzuca, who has
hurled several no-roun, no-hit
games for the Florists this sea
son, will face Bertha Ragan,
ace pitcher for the Connecti
cut club. Games are scheduled
for both Friday and Saturday
nights.
The Brakettes will play the
Florists July, 28, 29 and 31 at
Portland's Normandale Park
while on a tour of the West
Coast.
