HORNBROOK Motel, Campground Sold By KATHERINE CHAPMAN Hornbrook - Sleepy Hollow camp ground and motel on Highway 99 across from the quarantine station as been sold, and the new owners are in the process of moving in, Coming here from North Highlands, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bambula plan to continue to run the motel, and also to operate a restaurant in connection' with it. The Bam- bulas have eight children ranging from John, 19, through Bill, Bob, Richard, Glen, Jim, Mary and Jane, who is six. John and Bill are in high school and the others will attend the local grammar school. Bambula's mother, Mrs Caroline Davis, also makes her home with them. The property was bought from Ronnie Kerschman, but has been leased to Ted Gessler for several months. The Gesslers have bought property here and moved into town. Other newcomers here are Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Slack, who have bought the John Griffin place. They moved in several days ago. Teddy Fisher had a number of his young friends in on July 8 to help him celebrate his seventh birthday. The chil dren spent the afternoon play ing games, with prizes going to Ronnie Watt, Christy Chad- wick, Linda Hogan and Jackie Skeahan. Teddy's other guests were his sister Vicki and brother Kenny and Patty Moore, Mike, Danny and Kenny Doo ley, Karen Baker, Bunny Sue Blankenship, Henry Skeahan and Larry Madison. Mrs. Har- ley Baker and Mrs. Ike Doo- ley assisted Teddys motner, Mrs. E. E. (Pete) Fisher. Mrs. Dudley Killingsworth and her daughter, Mrs. Bill Thomas, of Yreka returned July 9 from Folsom, Calif., where they attended the fu neral of Mrs. Killingsworth's nephew, Donald Samms. They stayed overnight with a cous in, Mrs. 'Gilbert Clark, at Richvale. It was while they were at tending a Killingsworth fam ily reunion on July 4 at Hon eydew, in Humboldt county, that they received word that young Samms had been killed in a car accident near Cres cent City. Spending this week with the Killingsworths at their home here are two of their foster children, James and Mi chael Altman. formerly of Hilts, but now living in San Fernando. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bailey and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bailey Jr. and their daugh ters, Debbie and. Diane, visit ed on Wednesday with Mrs, Mary Kurt, a cousin of Bailey Sr. All of the Baileys are from Sacramento. Mrs. Grace Doolittle return ed home July 10 after spend ing three weeks in. Eureka, Calif., at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. "Spid" Doolittle. Mrs. Anna Coppin arrived last week from San Francisco for her annual summer stay here. Accompanying Mrs. Cop- pin north was her sister, Mrs Linda Bird. An old-fashioned county fair party was given on July 2 by the Yreka First South ern Baptist church at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cross on Shasta river. Those attending, all attired in "country hick" outfits, were the Rev. and Mrs. Odas Parnell and daughter, Dar lene, Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Knowlton and daughter, Am ber, Mrs. Eva Henry, and Mrs, Hattie Alpheus. All the guests were from Yreka. Refreshments consisted of a wiener bake and all the trim mings. Numerous old-fashion ed games were played, some so old that even the names were forgotten. Mr. and Mrs. Ivon Howard drove to Medford on Satur day, where they met her sis ter, Mrs. Helen Jasper, who arrived by plane from Louisville,- Ky., for a visit here. Mrs. Jasper teaches school in Louisville. Funeral services were held Saturday morning, July 11, at the Hornbrook Methodist church for Mrs. Ella Rose, 81, who died suddenly on July 7. The Rev. W. C. Small, pastor of the church, officiated, and burial was in the . Henley Hornbrook cemetery beside her husband, Charles, who died in 1952. Mrs. Rose was born May 21, 1878, at William Creek, Ore., to Oregon pioneer set tlers, John and Eva Caldwell Newcomb. She was a lifetime member of the Methodist church, having joined the church as a child at Williams. She had lived in the Horn-brook-Hilts area for 40 years, and in Hornbrook since 1942. Survivors include five chil dren, Courtland Rose, Ash land; Ted Rose, Grenada, Calif.; Mrs. Gino Trinca, Mrs. R. Cavin, and Mrs. Joe Vieira, all of Hilts, and several grand children. Mrs.' Rose and her husband also raised nine fos ter children.
