Pour into jar and cover tightly. Store at room temperature or in re frigerator. Party Baked Beans For 12 party servings, emp ty 3 one-pound cans baked beans, 2 20-ounce cans kidney beans into skillet or casserole. Stir in one-half cup All Amer ican Barbecue Sauce (recipe above). Simmer in skillet on top of range 20 minutes; or cover and bake in skillet or casserole in hot oven, 425 de grees, 30 to 40 minutes. Top with tomato slices and onion rings. Snap Beans Supreme Figure on one pound fresh snap beans for six- generous servings when combined with one-half pound fresh sliced mushrooms or four ounce can mushroom stems and pieces. Wash and trim one pound beans, cut French style or in one-inch pieces. Cook in sauce pan with one-half inch boling salted water; cook "five min utes uncovered, 10-12 minutes covered. Wash and slice one half pound fresh mushooms or use canned stems and pieces. Saute mushrooms in two table spoons butter or margarine five minutes or until tender, stirring frequently. Remove mushrooms from butter; stir-in one tablespoon flour. Add 1 cup sour cream and mix until smooth. Blend in mushrooms, salt and freshly ground peper to taste. Pour over cooked fresh snap beans. Serve hot. Garnish with fresh parsley. Minted Melon Balls For eight delicious and at tractive servings, wash leaves from a dozen sprigs of mint; bruise mint in a small bowl with one-half cup sugar and let stand an hour or two. Add juice of one lemon, juice of two oranges and let stand another hour. Scoop meat of, one ripe honeydew melon with small ball cutter or cut into cubes. Chill and serve in long stemmed frosty glasses. Fruit Salad Dressing With so many; fresh fruits available, we suggest a fruit salad dressing that is certain to please. Mash one large ripe banana in one-quarter cup honey; add one-quarter cup orange juice, one-quarter teaspoon salt. Blend in one-half sieved cot tage cheese. If thinner dress ing is desired, add additionl orange juice or cream. Garnish with paprika.1 Serve generous ly over any combination ' of fruit. Cantaloup Ring Salad ' , For a satisfying luncheon or supper salad, peel fresh cantaloupe, cut into one-inch crosswise slices, remove seeds and place ring on lettuce. Fill with mound of cottage cheese. Serve with a tart French dressing. Fruit Ambrosia Combine 1 cups diced fresh cantaloupe, one cup .fresh orange sections, 1V cups sliced bananas, two table spoons sugar and one table spoon fresh lemon juice. Sprinkle generously with fresh or canned shredded -coconut. Pile in sherbet glasses. Waste, Saves Money Many of us think of a re frigerator only as a conveni ence and of the pleasure and satisfaction in owning one and the ready availability of chilled fresh foods. We are in clined to forget its vital im portance as a prime protector of health and its ability to cut living costs. Another thing! Try to convince the children that every time the refrigera tor door is opened the hot air rushes in to replace that nice cool air coming out.' Few people realize how many times a day. the refriger ator door takes it on the slam. 1. Dont open your refriger ator any oftener nor leave the door open any longer than is actually necessary. The ave rage refrigerator door swings open 65 times a day. 2. Don't put hot food or dishes in the refrigerator. 3. Avoid quick freezing by planning ahead and giving the frozen product an opportunity to freeze at normal refrigera tor temperatures without "running it up." 4. Turn control down to the lowest operating point if you leave for the week-end. 5. Defrost refrigerator when the crust of frost is one-fourth inch thick. The thicker the frost, the harder, electricity has 'to work to maintain de sired temperature. ' 6. Is your refrigerator placed properly? Is it in the coolest part of the room, away from steam pipes, radiator, oven or sun? Is it placed so that the air circulates freely around it? Should be. 1 7. Keep refrigerator clean. 8. Watkins Can't Measure Mother-Love In the Animal World We have invented and per fected countless machines and instruments that accurately measure weights, quantities, even distances in . miles or light-years to distant planets. We have gadgets that assay amounts so small they hardly can be seen under a micro scope. When it comes to measur ing emotions, however, we have not done so well. We can't come close to saying how much a mother monkey thinks of her offspring.. We admit the higher animals ap pear to display parental care and affection but we are re luctant to credit an animal with possessing a very high degree of mother-love. With typical human ego we asso ciate this emotion to man alone. Powerful Emotion This love of offspring is one of the most powerful of human emotions and it does extend pretty deeply into the lives of all warm-blooded ani mals. In creatures like the monkey-folk, porpoise, whale, elephant and many others, mother-love is a factor to be reckoned with; an important emotion, one that actually bring about death by grief if the offspring is destroyed. And, too, this mother-love more than it did when it was new, have it checked. July, Plentiful Since our part of the coun try is blessed at this season with practically every known vegetable, fruit, berry, and melon known, we forego naming them. Quality is excellent. Best meat buys include broi ler-fryers, stewing hens, tur keys, braising cuts of beef, pork and lamb, hamburgers, frankfurters, cold cuts and many canned meats. Other good buys .include eggs, ice cream, frozen lemon ade, peanut butter, vegetable fats and oils, canned tuna, canned sardines, frozen fish sticks. In animals must continue up to a certain definite point and suddenly cease. Then we say "the animal is weaned." From there on there is no per sonal care. The young bird, calf, colt or porpoise is on its own to survive or perish as the fates dictate. Peculiar Instinct It is a peculiar instinct in deed, that reaches a certain climax and then subsides, only to be rekindled when an other baby is born. In some of the higher animals, the porpoise for one, the young, never . over . two in number, remain constantly with the mother for a long time, dur ing which time they are taught the things they must know. The mother gives every evi dence of a deep love for the baby; will often actually die if deprived of the little one. Such mother-love closely par allels that which humans be lieve is solely theirs. ' Where there is no love what-so-ever. such as in the strata of life composed of the insects, reptiles and fish there is absolutely no mother- love displayed, even in the mildest form; it's every bug, fish or frog for itself. Per haps it's fortunate that this is so, for it would be impos sible for the mother of sev eral thousand offspring, in the case of fish or sand-flies, to have enough mother-love to extend to the almost count less progeny.
