Many of them are not so much diz zy as that they have lost that com fortable sense of balance which a norm al person has. Maybe they stagger a lit- Dr. Alvarez e as iney walk, or they fear they are going to. Many fear they are going to fall down, but they don't These old people very seldom have the so-called diz ziness of of Meniere's disease. In that disease, the person will feel as if he were whirl ing about, or the room may seem to be whirling about him. Sometimes, with the diz ziness of older people, there will be a little nausea, or some ear noises. The thing to do is to go to an ear man -one who is honest and won't make work. Usually he will say, after an examination, "Your ears are perfectly nor mal, and hence you haven't Meniere's disease. Often, when I can talk to One-A - Day Doilies . Pineapples .- petite aand pretty! WALT'S TV & RADIO SERVICE Oldest She in Southern Oregon 409 I. Main. Phn SP 2-2269 Day Service Medford Vicinity No Calls Friday eve.. All Day Saturday or Sunday - the elderly person who has lost his good sense of balance all I have to ask is, "Did this thing come suddenly?" and he may say, "Yes; I was cros sing the street," or "I was sitting, reading the news paper," or "1 was on a bus, and suddenly it came." Some say they were left feeling so woozy and queer that they were frightened, and thought they were having a stroke or were going to die. These peo ple, 'I feel sure, are generally right in their diagnosis. They had what I call'a "little stroke," such as doesn't inter fere with speech, or leave any paralyzed muscles. The sad. thing is that sometimes the lack, of balance remains for months or even years. I am sorry that I don't know of any medicine that will quickly drive the trouble away. If I had it, I doubt if I'd take any medicine or even go see a doctor. I would simply grin and bear it; and I know that, often, it is pretty hard to bear. Pemphigus What is pemphigus? It is a disease of the skin in which there appear large blisters. It may be acute, or it may last a long time and be ac companied by generally poor health with loss of weight, poor appetite and anemia. It can be-a serious disease. The lesions tend to come in the armpits, the groins, around the navel, and perhaps in the scalp. They may give off an of fensive odor. The big blisters may rupture to leave a raw surface, which later becomes crusted. There are several types of the disease. Natural ly, the patient should quickly come under the care of a good skin specialist. Dr. Alvarez' booklet on arthritis may be obtained by sending 25 cents and a large, stamped, self-addressed en velope with your request to Dr. Walter C. Alvarez, Dept.
