Wafkins Pitches Phoenix to 11-5 Win Over Sacs United Press International ' Bud Watkins, a hulking 28-year-old righthander who was such a failure in the early season that Vancouver tried to peddle him to Amarillo, Tex., has a new lease on life today. Watkins racked up his sev enth straight win Monday night while pitching Phoenix to an 11-5 win over Sacra mento. Vancouver sold Watkins to Phoenix when the righthand er who hails from Richmond, Calif., refused to report to the Washington Men Pace NW Golf Portland-fiJPD-Two Washing ton staters,' Jim Bourne of Seattle and Bob Pratt of Ren ton, paced a field of 206 Mon day as first-round qualifying got tne ootn annual racinc Northwest Golf ' association championships underway at Portland Golf club. This put her six strokes ahead of the rest of the field of. 150. Eugene Woman Follows After Miss Englehorn came Elaine Porritt, Eugene, and Maude Borst of Portland. Both had 78's. 1955 National Ama teur champion Mrs. Pat Les ser Harbottle had trouble on the back nine and carded 40-4181. Jerry Cundari, Portland, and Joe Peroski of Vancouver, B.C., followed Pratt in the men's with .73 each. The second and final day of qualifying was today. Filly Killed On Race Track Portland - (UPD - Que Bonita, three-year-old filly, was killed Monday night when she crash ed into the outside rail in the ninth race at Portland Mea dows as Love Match was over taking favored Grandpa Sam at the head of the stretch. Jockey Jerry Lambert was thrown well "beyond the horse and the rail and suffered only a badly bruised ankle. At first it was thought he may have broken a leg, but after a care ful check by the track phy sician he was walking around unassisted. Love Match won the race. McMURTRY SIGNS Seattle-(UPD-Irish Pat Mc- Murtry, Tacoma heavyweight, ' has signed to meet Earl Atley of Philadelphia in a 10-round-er at Sicks' Seattle Stadium July 21. She shot a one-over-par 75 for a 72-hole total of 76-68-69-75-288. Par for. the distance is 296. -: It was the first LPGA championship for the Spar tansburg, S.C. golfer, who finished only one stroke ahead of Patty Berg. The match was decided on the 17th hole when Miss Berg missed a heart-breaking putt which would have given her a tie and forced the contest into overtime. Miss Berg's putt stopped only two inches from the cup. Both girls then birdied the 18th and the match was over. Wins $12,528 Total Betsy's winning purse of $1,274 brings her take for the season to $12,528, by far the best among the woman pros. It was her 34th tourney win in eight years as a profession al golfer. Miss Berg, West Chicago, 111., started the final round six strokes off the pace, but her putter failed her at the crucial moment. She carded a four-under-par 70 and won $961. Her total was 75-71-73-70-289. Louise Suggs, Sea Island, Ga., won third money of $760. Miss Suggs, who won the French Lick Open last year; shot a four-under-par 71 to finish' with a 290 total. In fourth place was Joyce Ziske, Milwaukee, Wis., who won $605 on a 293 total. Injunction Asked At Tillamook Portland-(UPD-The National Labor Relations Board Mon day filed a petition in federal court here for. an injunction against four affiliates of the Teamsters union, seeking an end to a Teamster boycott against Tillamook County Creamery Association products. The Teamtsers have been on strike against the associa tion since May 1. The petition, filed by Tho mas P. Graham Jr., NLRB re gional director from Seattle, asks an injunction against the Joint Council of Teamsters 37; Astoria local 569; Dairy, Ice and Ice Cream local 305 and Warehousemen's local 206., Graham's petition requested the court to order the union to show cause why an injunc tion should not be issued. Since the strike began, the Teamsters launched a boy cott against Tillamook brand cheese, first in Portland, then in 11 Western states. The union is demanding higher wages from the asso ciation. Butler, Catey Top-Seeded In RVCC Senior Tourney 7 Larry Butler, as medalist, and Bill Catey, as defending champ, are top seeded in the pairings announced yesterday for the senior club champion ship golf tourney of Rogue Valley Country club, Qualifying concluded Sun day and first round matches in the tournament are to be completed by Sunday, July 19. Boals was low gross over the past week end Bisons Trail 8-1, Then Win 12-8 United Press International The Buffalo Bisons are rid ing high in the International League today because they never quit-even when they are trailing 8-1 -in the last in ning. That was the score when the Bisons came to bat in the ninth inning Monday night against the Red Wings at Rochester. They scored seven runs to tie the score and then pushed across four more in the 14th inning for a 12-8 verdict. A three-run homer by Pan cho Herrera featured Buf falo's ninth inning rally. Ken Lehman came on in the bot tom of the ninth and held the Red Wings scoreless until the Bisons settled matters in the 14th. Zack Monroe allowed only four hits in pitching Rich mond to a 3-1 triumph over Havana. B o r r e g o Alvarez ruined Monroe's shutout bid with a bases-empty homer in the sixth inning. Gold Beach JP Located in Cabin Gold Beach-dJPD-William E Fuller, Gold Beach justice of the peace reported missing by his family last week, was lo cated safely Monday in a cabin south of here. Curry county Sheriff R. G Sabin said Fuller, who re turned home Monday, told him he went to the cabin to "hole up." Last week auditors check ing Fuller's accounts after his disappearance found a dis crepancy of $5,900, but a check was later deposited for the full amount. " The Curry county district attorney's office 'said - no charges were pending against Fuller. Sabin said the justice agreed to return to his home. FBI's "10 Most Wanted" criminals today with the cap ture of George Edward Cole, 32, an ex-convict wanted as a police killer in San Francisco. Cole, wearing a mustache as a disguise but with a tell tale heart and the words "mom" and "pop" tatpoed on his left forearm, was seized Monday at a service station where he was manager and where he had worked for two years. He put lip no fight, but in sisted his name was James E. Walker and denied his true identification until he was fin gerprinted. Girl Friend Arrested Arrested a short time later and jailed with Cole was his girl friend, Yvonne Conley, 45, San Francisco. The FBI held her as his accomplice. The FBI had sought Cole on a charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution in con nection with the 1956 slaying of Sgt. Joe Lacey, a San Fran cisco policeman, during a tav ern holdup. An FBI spokesman said an "intensive investigation" led agents to the service station. The agents drove up and asked an attendant to fill lip then automobile tank. They found Cole in the office. "He gave us no trouble and said nothing except that he denied his identification," the spokesman said. He added that Cole admitted his identity when he was confronted with fingerprinting. Cole was unarmed when the agents approached him. Officers later found in a car at the station a .22 caliber pistol which they said be long to him. Miss Conley was arrested when she arrived at the sta tion a short time later to see Cole. The FBI said the pah- lived in a mobile home at a trailer court. Agents said that Cole had served prison sentences in California and Missouri for grand larceny and armed rob bery but had a "clean" record here. The 6 foot 1 inch fugitive had an eight-point star tat tooed on the back of his left hand in addition to the tattoe on his forearm. San . Francisco police said Cole was named by a compan ion, Thomas Hamrick, as La cey's killer. Lacey, off duty, was sitting in the tavern when Cole and Hamrick tried to hold it up. Lacey tried to stop the holdup, police said, an.d was shot down. Hamrick is serving time in San Quen tin for the robbery. W. McCovey Tops Hitters San Francisco-s (UPD -Willie McCovey of Phoenix leads the Pacific Coast League hitters, and Dick Hall, Salt Lake City, tops the pitchers, according to statistics released today and including Sunday's games. McCovey, towering Giant first baseman, is batting at a .344. clip. He has knocked in 64 runs and clouted 19 hom ers, to lead the league in those departments, too. The only department he doesn't lead is in total hits, where teammate Jose Pagan, has 110. Hall, who has hurled six shutouts this year while post ing a 9-3 record, has allowed only 1.24 runs per nine in nings. Dick Stigman, San Diego, leads in strikeouts with 102.
