Adele D. - He isn't nice to my parents. Bill D. - They try to get my goat. Adele D. - My husband and I have been married five years and we have two chil dren. There is only one thing . we ever fight about - and that's my parents. Bill just never liked my par ents from the very beginning, , They wanted me to marry a different man and I feel that he has always held that against them. It's true they weren't too nice to him at first, but now he is the one who isn't nice. . I am an only daughter and I am very much attached to my parents. I like them to drop in once or twice a week and I like having Sunday din- .ner with them. According to Bill, this spoils his whole " week end. He doesn't open his mouth when my parents are around and this hurts them .very much. e j Bill D. - Tm not the kind of guy to hold a grudge but my in-laws are really the limit. They didn't want Adele to marry me because I'm just an ordinary mechanic and' the other guy in the case was a big shot salesman - a real idiot too, if you ask me. He "Just happens to drive a big ger, better car than mine. Instead of letting bygones be bygones, these in-laws of mine often bring up this guy. He's married now and they tell about the new home he bought and things like that. They just do it to get my goat. According to Adele, should just grin and put up and shut up. She says she doesn't expect me to love her parents, but just hide my feelings. I'm not the kind to do that. The Council - It isn't hard for most of us to hide our feel ings in a casual relationship. we can be polite and even pleasant to someone we dis like if we aren't going to see him again, but this hypocrisy won't hold up in the more im portant relationships. If it is true that these in laws are constantly "rubbing it in" that Adele could have made a better marriage, they ought to be told eff - by Adele. She should let her par ents know In no uncertain terms that she is satisfied with the man she married and she is not interested in former boyfriends.. ... . It is very likely that Bill, knowing . how strongly his wife is attached to her par ents, feels that she may share their attitude. Since she does nothing to silence her parents, he is left to assume that she has a regret or two about the "big shot salesman." It is also possible that Bill himself holds a poor opinion of himself and his position in life and is unduly sensitive to casual remarks that were not intended as a reflection on him. This is really unfortu nate for it means that he must be unhappy in many other areas of his lif aside from in-laws.
