That's no hardship, Mr Benson. "We know that the hen does the neatest packag ing job known to nature; tnat she packs each egg with high quality protein, vitamins and minerals. We know that ways of usine eess are beyond num bering and we can't think of a better time to use them to good advantage than right now ... for our family's good health, for the sake of tne egg producers and the agri cultural economy of the coun try whose birthday we cele brate. Egg quality is the highest. Prices are the" lowest in 18 years. Poultry prices too are the lowest in our memory; all because supply exceeds de mand. Well Devil Eggs We've been deviling and stuffing eggs for Fourth of July picnics for 183 years now, and this year we'll fix an extra dozen knowing that everyone of them will be eat en and genuinely enjoyed. f T 1 T A rrtrte- rrrTaA Salt and pepper 1 L. 4iOT"ij-kw"i rJw miicar? 1V teaspoons vinegar , 3 tablespoons melted butter or mayonnaise Paprika or parsley - Cut hard - cooked eggs in halves lengthwise. Remove yolks and mash; add other in gredients and whip until smooth and fluffy. Heap into white halves leaving surface roughened and sprinkle with a little paprika or chopped parsley. Twelve halves. For carrying to picnic grounds, fill egg whites and put halves together; wrap in waxed paper, foil or trans parent wrap and chill well. Variations Many To the hard-cooked egg yolk mixture, add chopped crisply cooked bacon ... or mashed liver sausage ... or finely grated cheese in the amount desired. Anchovy or other fish pastes or mashed sardines mey be used in the same way, vary ing amount of salt, so taste and add salt last. Many like to add minced onion, either freshly minced orthe instant variety. Well put Hard-Cooked Eaas in Chicken Salad Hard-cooked eggs have been going into chicken (and po tato) salads since hens and eggs first got together. We know perfectly well that we're not only helping the poultry and egg producers but we're giving our families an extra helping of fine nutrition when we put eggs in salads. Season to taste with salt, pepper, grated on ion and lemon juice. Chill and serve on greens. Festive Variations Almond. Add one-fourth to one - half cup slivered toasted almonds just before serving Avocado. Omit eggs and add one-half cup diced avo cado or serve in avocado halves. - Cranberry. Garnish or serve salad with cranberry sauce on side. , . Grape. Add one -half cup seedless white grapes. Pineapple. Add one - half cup diced fresh or canned pineapple. Sour Cream Potato Salad for Picnickers Hard - cooked eggs, sour cream and diced cucumber make this a potato salad for irequent repeating, you ii gei at least 15 picnic servings or eight generous main dish servings. 4 cups sliced or diced cook ed potatoes v, Vfc cup diced cucumber 1 onion minced or table spoon instant minced onion 3A teaspoon celery seed IVi teaspoons-salt Vfc teaspoon freshly ground pepper 3 hard-cooked eggs Vi cups sour cream cup mayonnaise V cup vinegar 2 teaspoons prepared mus tard ' Combine potatoes, cucum ber, onion, celery seed, salt and pepper; blend perfectly. Cut egg whites into small pieces and add to potatoes. Mash egg yolks and combine with sour cream, mayonnaise, vinegar and mustard; blend. Heat sour cream mixture slightly and pour over pota toes. Chill and serve on salad greens. Soups for Sipping When family andor friends gravitate to terrace, patio or porch pass a tray of any of the drinking soups, well chill ed and served from pottery or plastic mugs, cups or sturdy tumblers. Sipping soups in clude cream of asparagus, black bean, cream of celery, cream of chicken, consomme, green- pea, cream of mush room, frozen green pea or po tato. . : Season Broilers with Salad Dressing Mix Why not? On Court across from Rogue Valley Bank . Car Demolished In One-Vehicle Accident July 1 Last evening a vehicle was demolished in a one-car acci dent approximately one mile from Ashland on Highway 66. Police said that operator of the vehicle was Gary Leroy Hanson, Colville, Wash., who was traveling east when the car failed to make a curve and went off the south side of the highway. According to police reports the vehicle traveled 147 feet in a ditch, plowed through a fence into a vacant field and stopped on its side after roll ing over several times. The vehicle was found approxi mately 405 feet from the high way, police said. The driver suffered minor cuts and bruises, it was re ported. Second Accident Another accident occurred yesterday at 10 a.m. on Sav age Creek rd. when a vehicle operated by Marjorie Viola Leonard, Eugene, hit the rear end of a vehicle operated by Israel Thompson Smith, Santa Barbara, Calif. The Smith vehicle, accord ing to police, had stopped to turn into a filling station on the right side of the road when the accident occurred. The front end of the Leonard vehicle was damaged. Both Marjorie Leonard and Hanson were informed by po lice that complaints charging violation of the basic rule would be signed against them. Finland Prison Fire Fatal fo 17 Helsinki, Finland- (UPD -Fire raged through a prison in southwest Finland during the night killing at least 17 per sons. Eight others were miss ing. The firejjroke out at Koey lio prison, near Pori, and raged for two hours before it was brought under control. The prison houses about 200 convicts. EDWARD JACOBSON Here From California Social Security Manager Arrives Edward Jacobson has as sumed duties here as district manager dt the Social Security office. He succeeds Walter V. Nusbaum who was transferred last month to the Lewiston, Idaho, office. Jacobson was formerly as sistant manager- of the Santa Anna, Calif., office, prior to his transfer here. The new manager here has been with the Social Security bureau for ten years having also been as signed in Klamath Falls, Port and and Hollywood. He is a graduate of the Uni versity of Minnesota where he majored in economics and served in the Army Air Force during World War II. - Mrs. Jacobson and the couple's six children will ar rive in the valley sometime this month. Mack-Whiteside Case Deliberated Washington-(UPD -A federal court jury resumes delibera tions today in the Mack-Whiteside conspiracy trial after fail ing to reach a verdict Wednes day night. Former Federal Communi cations Commissioner Richard A. Mack and his boyhood friend, Miami attorney Thur man A. Whiteside, have been on trial for three months. They were charged with con niving to throw the FCC's award of Miami TV Channel 10 to Public Service Tele vision, Inc., a subsidiary of National Airlines. Whiteside was alleged to have- influenced Mack's vote in favor of Public Service by making loans and gifts of money to him. Eisenhowers Go To Mountain Retreat Washington- (UPD -President and Mrs. Eisenhower slip off, to their retreat in the Mary land mountains today to con tinue celebration of their 43rd wedding anniversary with an old-fashioned house party for old friends. The couple was expected to leave this afternoon for Camp David, Md., in the Catoctin mountains where they will be able to escape the muggy Washington heat over the long July 4 week end. Eisenhower, then a first lieutenant, married Mamie Geneva Doud in her frame house in Denver 43 years ago Wednesday. SUICIDE NOTE Los Angeles (UPD Andrew H. Hewett, 56, wrote a suicide note Wednesday, then killed himself by breathing the ex haust from his auto which he piped into the car through a hose. His note read: "Goodbye suckers." The federal meat inspection stamp which reads "U. S. In spected and Passed" shows that the meat product has been made from wholesome ingredients and processed un der sanitary conditions. I , I Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company Tillamook Group Studies Proposals Tillamook - (UPD - A spokes man for the Tillamook Coun ty Creamery association said Wednesday that the associa tion's board of directors is taking a compromise proposal in the wage dispute with the Teamsters union to farmer owners in a series of meet ings. The strike has been under way since May 1. .Tuesday night in Salem, creamery and union officials promised to look into a compromise offer after a four-hour meeting with Gov. Mark Hatfield in his office in the capitol. ' The association said the first meeting was Wednesday night and the last meeting with producers is expected to be Monday night. Then, he said, the union and the asso ciation will . talk over the results. . College-on-Credit Plan Told by Bank A college-on-credit plan has been announced by the First National Bank of Oregon. Parents may contract for an unsecured personal loan for a period up to six years. Thornton Appoints Committeeman Salem-IUPD-Arthur G. Higgs, assistant attorney general in charge of the Portland branch office of the state justice de partment, Wednesday was ap pointed by Attorney General Robert Y. Thornton to serve on the legislative interim com mittee on criminal law. Higgs assisted Thornton during the Portland vice in vestigation and has served as chief trial attorney with the Interstate Commerce Commis sion. He was a deputy district attorney in Multnomah coun ty who has been with the jus tice department for 10 years. His home is in Beaverton. NOTICE!
