Olmedo, frequently referred to as "Peru's gift to American tennis," met eighth - seeded Maids Trip Basinette Nine 13-5 Rogue Valley Dairy Maids with the Klamath Falls Basi nette softball team last night with an 18 to 5 decision at Klamath Falls. The Maids got four of their runs in the third inning on hits by Jean Main and Shirley Hanson, three fielder's op tions and an error. The commission said the Beulah reservoir was expect ed to go dry by Sept. 15; Warm Springs is expected to be down to a 1,000-acre pud dle in which only the large mouth bass will have a chance to survive, and Chickahominy may get too low and too warm to sustain fish. The commis sion said the water shortage is due to a drouth in southeast Oregon plus needs of irriga tionists and ranchers. . American Legion junior baseball has the spotlight this evening with games on two fields near at hand. Medford will entertain Klamath Falls at Memorial stadium. Camp White, while Central Point plays Grants Pass on Cheney field hare. Both tussles are set for 8 p.m. At Camp White, Klam ath's unmarred record in the southern division of Area 4 will be at stake with Medford trying to spill the visitors and gain a tie for first place. Central Point's Cheney Studs need a iri ump to stay in the running for division honors. Medford goes into the tussle tonight remembering how it almost had the last game against Klamath won but was victimised in the fi nal inning. Klamath has handed the locals their only loss. Central Point has two previous wins over Grants Pass. . The Studs have additional district action this week; they go to Klamath Falls for a Friday night contest. The grounds will be located at Hawthorne park, Hoover, Jackson, Jefferson, Washing ton and Wilson grade schools. The boys are asked to attend the park nearest their home. This program is run in con junction with the Medford baseball school and from time to time instruction will be given at the playgrounds. A registration fee of 50c will be charged to help cover equip ment expenses. The boys al- ready enrolled in baseball school have already paid the registration fee. The first week's activities will include registration, or ganization of teams, practice and interfield games. It is1 hoped that there" will be enough boys for either an inter city league or interfield leagues in two divisions, the Sandblowers, 8-10 years old, and', the,: Bears, 11 and 12 year olds. Other playground facilities and games will be available when the recreation leaders are present. The Medford Wildcats blanked the Central Point In dians 5 to 0 to assume third position in the standings and Eagle Point recorded its first loop triumph by downing the Central-Point Braves 9 to 1. Action continues in the league Thursday with four games. Lone Pine, which is just getting organized and has not played the first three games on its. slate, will make its debut as host to Medford Wildcats. ' Yesterday the Tigers got only two hits to the Bears eight but got the help of walks and Ashland errors. A five-run fourth inning brought the Medford club from be hind. Roemer singled and Dames doubled for the only Tiger safeties. DeBoer, Wea ver and Mowry each got two hits for Ashland. The Bears bunched three safeties in the first inning in getting four runs. The Wildcats had their big inning in the second when Mike Naumes doubled and Randy Corliss singled and three runs crossed. Ken Eckel pitched 4 23 innings of no hit ball for Medford. With two out in the fifth inning Lefty Frohreich doubled. Naumes' double Was the only extra base hit for the Wild cats. Corliss hit two for two. First inning was the big one for Eagle Point which got six runs at that time on five hits including a double by Don Charley. Frank Charley pitched a two-hitter and good defense helped the EP cause. Dan Holden Named TC Manager Kennewick - (UPD - Da n n y Holden was named as the playing manager of the Tri City Braves of the Northwest league Tuesday. Holden, a veteran of 13 years in organized baseball, replaces Jack Lohrke who was released unconditionally Monday night by the board of directors of the Tri-City Ath letic association.
