Monday, J una 29, 1959 Camp White Entertains Presidio Camp White-Three pitchers are slated to divide the hill duties this evening when the Camp White semi-pro baseball nine tussles the Army's San Fragcisco Presidio club at Memorial Stadium here. Manager Bob Smith said that Don Sanford, Jim Eggers and Gary Keners will split the chore in the game which tarts- at 8 p.m. Bob Pond will do the catching. The Camp Whiters will be reinforced with the return of Bill Weddie and Jack Burns from National Guard camp. In the winning surge Bob Cellers walked, Gene Wagner sacrificed, Jim Booth singled and Les Bogner hit a fly which was dropped by left iielder Bill Anhorn. Medford dropped Glendale 7 to 0, Ashland smothered Butte Falls 19 to 0 and Riddle kicked Grants Pass 7 to 6 in 14 innings. Grants Pass led Riddle 5 to 2 going into the last half of the ninth inning. The league pacers, however, tied up the fray. It was still 5 to 5 after 13 innings. In the top of the 14th Grants Pass got a run but Riddle rallied to load the bases on two singles and a walk in its batting turn. Ken Ayers doubled for the two runs which broke up the game. Ernie Tyler distributed eight hits in twirling a shut out for Medford Bowling lanes. He allowed two bases on balls and struck out four. Reynolds 4 for 4 Kay Vaughn with three hits in four times at bat, John Han son and Gordon Owsley each with three for five and Charles Rettman with two safe blows led the Keglers' 13-hit assault on Glendale thrower Floyd West. The vis iting pitcher walked three and fanned five. Troy Reynolds had four hits in four times up for Glendale. Medford piled up three counters in the first inning on a double by Vaughn, sin gles by Hanson and Larry Perkins and two bases on balls. Single runs were put Crawford Cops NCAA Links Toga Eugene-flJPD-Houston sopho more Richard Crawford cele brated his 20th birthday here Saturday with a 7 and 6 vic tory over San Jose State jun ior Jack Luceti for the NCAA individual champio n ship crown. It was the third straight year a University of Houston team titlist has won the crown. Crawford, who was the number four man on the cham pion Houston team, outdrove Luceti all day. The match end ed' on the 30th hole when Luceti missed a three-foot putt for bogey. The first 17 holes were close. But Crawford sank a 25 foot putt on the 18th to go 2-up. Then he proceeded to sink putts of 20, 17, and 10 feet to win holes on the third nine. Commissioner Ford C. Frick, in announcing the vote of the players, managers and coaches for the. eight starting positions on each team, said Aaron was the first unanimous selection in. the voting his tory of the All-Star game. Frick stressed that not even Babe Ruth had been accord ed that honor. Lindy McDaniel relieved in both games for the Cardinals who scored seven unearned runs in the first inning of the opener and then clubbed out 15 hits in the nightcap. Sherman Lollar, Earl Bat tey, Bubba Phillips and Hal Smith hit homers and Early Wynn won his 11th game of the season and 260th of his career for the White Sox in the first game with New York. Lollar - also hit a three-run homer in the first inning of the second game to kayo Don Larsen and provide the big blow in Dick Donovan's fifth win of the season. Don Mossi pitched a six-hitter and hit a two-run double to raise his record. to 6-3 for the Tigers. Charlie Maxwell homered for the Tigers. National Open Won By Wright Pittsburgh - (UPD - Mickey Wright, thoroughly rested after Saturday's grueling 36 hole finals of the Women's Open golf championship, has her eye set on pulling another repeat performance next month in the Ladies PGA at French Lick, Ind. Mickey won an unprece dented second straight Open crown at nearby Churchill Valley Country Club, firing a record 287. She nosed out Louise Suggs, Sea Island, Ga., pro who had a 289. In a three-way tie for third were Joyce Ziske, Waterford, Wis.; Ruth Jessen, Seattle, Wash., and Marlene Bauer H a g g e, women's pro at Churchill. Ali had 72-hole totals of 292. Hoad Triumphs Over Gonzales Forest Hills, N. Y.-OJPD-Lew Hoad's convincing triumph over Pancho Gonzales gave him a wafer-thin edge .over Gonzales today in their per sonal battle for the No. 1 spot in professional tennis. Bland, 24-year-old Hoad of Australia blunted the ' big service of 31-year-old Gon zales of Los Angeles in then first set and went on to score a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 victory in the final round of Jack Kra mer's $15,000 tournament of Champions Sunday. That gave Hoad 21 victories over Gonzales this season, while Gonzales, the defend ing pro champion, has beaten the young Aussie 20 times. But up till now, the facts are that they just don't need a cart full of hits and runs. , Sunday they copped a pair from the Portland Beavers, the newest challengers to the Solons' lofty position. The Sacs disposed of the Beavers 2-1 in the first game and won the second, 1-0. On the strength of those three runs, manager Bob Elliott's men are now three and .a half games ahead of the. pack. In the battle for last place in the PCL, Seattle and Phoe nix split a twin bill, the Giants grabbing the opener, 7-2, and the Rainiers the second, in eight innings, 5-4.
