Lowell Dean likely will

for Medford American Legion
junior baseball nine Saturday
night when it opposes" Central
Point Cheney Studs on Che
ney field here. .
John Anhorn has been an
nounced as the probable Cen
tral Point pitcher for the 8
p.m. ruckus. ' ,
Saturday's game will be a
non-leaguer. Medford -has
southern division Area 4 con
tention on Sunday afternoon
at Grants Pass. The Studs
also will be busy on Sunday
with an afternoon tangle (non
counting) at Roseburg.
Medford Coach John Ko
venz, who is also Medford
high head diamond mentor,
has an eye to the 'future in
trying Dean on the hill. The
coach would like to be sure
of a good solid righthand
pitcher for the 1960 prep sea
son. Dean, a regular first
baseman, is big and strong
and with the Black Tornado
having considerable infield
depth it will be a big boost
in the defense of the District
6 title if he shows he can take
a turn on the mound.
Marier in Cbjrg
Kovenz said that while
Dean may start, Jerry Ander
son may finish up the fray as
pitcher. Tom Marier will
have the coaching duties for
the Medford Legion club Sat
urday night since Kovenz will
be in Eugene for the state
prep all-star baseball game.
Central Point will be after
its first win in three games
against Medford. The locals
took a twinbill from" the
Studs last Sunday.
Bob" Quinney is the possi
ble pitcher for Medford in
the counting contest at Grants
Pass on Sunday. GP tosser
may be Bill Cole. It was un
certain today whether one or
two games will be played.
The Studs also will seek to
partially even the score for
two losses to Roseburg. They
may have their hands full
since the Lockwood Motors is
9-0 for the seasons-winning
seven straight after opening
its slate against Central Point.
Bill Anhorn,: the Studs No.
1 pitcher, is expected to get
Coacb Bill Askwith's hill as
signment and Roseburg Coach
Bill Harper will pick a
moundsman from among Bob
Whipple, Jerry Halladay and
John Livingston.
