John Kovenz, director of the Medford school district baseball, school, said that or ganization of a team at Lone Pine is being looked into. If a club is not formed there, a third Medford team will be organized to take its place on the pee wee schedule. Yesterday, the Wildcats got only four hits but obtained many bases on balls to help with the win. Mike Farthing was the winning pitcher for the Medford nine and Jim Wise singled and tripled in four times up. Pappas blanked the Tribe until Woodie Held hit his 12th homer in the eighth. Williams Back in Lineup Ted Williams, Jackie Jen sen and Frank Malzone each hit homers for the Red Sox against the Tigers. Jensen drove in four runs with three hits that included his 14th homer with two on in the ninth. Williams returned to the lineup after nine days on the bench because of weak hitting and had a homer and a single in three official trips. Del Crandall was the big gun in Milwaukee's win over St. Louis, driving in four runs to help Carlton Willey to his third victory. Crandall dou bled home two runs in a three-run first inning and broke a 3-3 tie with a two run homer in the fifth . Big Dick Stuart lashed out three singles and a home run in helping Vera Law of the Pirates beat the Giants. The Victory was Law's eighth against four defeats and he achieved it with a six-hit ef fort. The Dodgers mustered only five hits off Gene Conley of the Phillies but three of them were home runs by Junior Gilliam, Gil Hodges and Don Demeter. Hodges' homer, his 11th of the season, was the 331st of his career and moved him to an 11th place tie with Hank Greenberg on the all time" home run list. There will be a National Rifle Association Approved Three Gun Match next Sun day beginning at 8 a.m. The match wil consist of 20 shots slow, time and rapid fire, with .22 caliber pistol or re volver. The same course of fire with center fire weapon which may include any cali ber from .25 to .45 and the same course of fire with .45. The .45 caliber ammuni tion will be available free to club members. There will be a .22 rifle practice tonight as usual. SPORTS Copple Has 146 Card in NCAA Mix Eugene - (UPD - Fourteen col lege golfers from the Pacific Northwest, led by Tom Jakob- sen of Oregon and Leighton Tuttle of Oregon State, quali fied for the NCAA match play championships which start to day. Oregon, which finished in fourth place in team standings with a six-over-par 574, quali fied five men. Seattle and Or egon State had three each, Idaho two and Washington State one. Washington, which entered six men, failed to qualify one for the finals. The best Husky score was a 75-75-150 by Jim Shapiro, one short of the nec essary 149 to qualify. The Uni versity of Portland also failed to qualify anyone. Jakobsen's 68-69-137 fell one short of the NCAA medal ist record which was tied Tuesday by BOb. Pratt and Jack Cupit of Houston. Tuttle, playing in his home town, had a 71-67-138. Only Cupit matched his 67 total on Tuesday. (DPD Five members of University of Houston's six-man golf team led a field of 64 playfers today as match play opened in the NCAA Golf Tournament. Houston won an unpre cedented fourth straight team title Tuesday with Bob Pratt anT Jack Oupit both' tieing the NCAA medalist record of 136 for '36 holes. Houston also set a new team mark of 561, nine strokes under the record it set last year and seven strokes under par. Match play will run through Saturday, with to day's field slated to be cut to 16 after two 18-hole match rounds. Purdue finished 10 strokes back of Houston Tuesday to take second place in the team standings. Stanford was third with 573, Oregon fourth with 574, Oklahoma State fifth with 579 and Seattle sixth Track Tiffs This Week Amateur track and field athletes will have two meets they can enter this week end One is scheduled on Friday evening on the Southern Ore gon college oval at Ashland and the other on Saturday morning and evening at the Medford high stadium. It will be the second sum mer meet for each field and larger entries are anticipated this week end. Ashland meet, under the city recreation program is set for 7J.5 pjn. with open, -.en-ior, 'junior and grade divi sions. Medford's event will be under the Oregon Olympic Development program of the AAU and the Medford city re creation department. Events for junior boys and girls, nine through 16 years of age, are set for 10 ajn. with high school and open contests set for 7 pjn.
