Certainly no President in recent years has cared less about whiskey. This is rela tively unusual in the sophis ticated cocktail society of a world capital. Left to his own devices, Eisenhower might take a thin scotch and water before din ner, but that is about all. He doesn't drink beer. For the most part he pas- '"I'd say that you're right, Mr. Seven Drivers Get o Licenses Suspended Salem-The department of motor vehicles has released names of 330 drivers whose , licenses were ordered suspend ed during the period begin ning June 8, and ending June 12. Length of suspension varies, depending on charges involv ed,: recommendation of court, discretionary action by the de partment o requirements of Oregon law. The department said some of the licenses in volving court recommenda tions may have been re-instat ed after suspension wat order ed ' ' The department warned "drivers that the penalty for driving while suspended is a jail sentence of no less than two days and up to six months, and there may be imposed a fine up to $500. Under lic ensing procedures, this will al so result in an additional year of suspension. At a state banquet in the White House for a visit ing potentate, but he does no more than taste them out of politeness. No wine is served when he and Mrs. Eisenhow er dine alone. 1 Carries It Around , Sometimes, after a formal dinner at the White House, when the men Jeave the ladies briefly for cigars and liquers, Eisenhower may take a creme de menthe frappe to carry around with him as he talks with his guests. Eisenhower has one : or two favorite brands of scotch. Away from the White House, his hosts usually have enough of the stuff to float the Nautilus. There have been numerous occasions where the' Presi dent deliberately delayed his arrival in order to reach the banquet just in time for din ner,, leaving the hosts with a fine collection of unopened bottles. Eisenhower would not think of having a drink before lunch as many big American ex ecutives do. Nor does he drink after dinner-unless it is a most unusually festive even ing as Christmas or New Year's, or when he is the guest of a president or king in some foreign settling where to turn down a drink might seem out of place. Greeted Friend As casual as the President is about his own taste in high balls, he's very perceptive when it comes to spotting someone who may have over indulged slightly. ' At a rather large party not too long ago, Eisenhower was greeted by a man he knows well. The cocktail session be fore dinner had been running an Hour or more when the President arrived. ' With a broad grin and no hint of accusation, the Presi dent said in a voice that could be heard quite distinctly in other parts of the room, "Well, by jolly, I'd say you've been drinking." The somewhat flabbergast ed guest responded wifh what passed for a smile and said, President." .
