Ninety-seven high school science and mathematics teachers from 19 states were picked to participate. Fifty three were named from Ore gon. , Each will receive a stipend of $74 per week, plus tuition and fees, and some dependent , and travel allowances. The teachers will be enrolled in the graduate school and will be taking courses especially organized for them. The institutes are part of a vast National Science Founda tion summer training program for teachers. Purposes are to acquaint teachers with new AiralstTYmATle onH nar -Vein -Vi ing techniques in the fields of science and mathematics. The institutes are aimed al so at helping teachers stimu late more interest among stud ents in science and mathema tics careers. To be eligible for selection, teachers must have had at least three years teach ing experience. Some 800 ap plications were received by Orgeon State college for the institutes. The college received grants . - totaling $111,500 from Nation al Science Foundation to con duct the training. OSC is one of the leading centers for sci . ence - mathematics teachers training in the U.S. Dr. Stan ley E. Williamson, head of science education, and Dr. Al bert R.
