Shurtleff, teacher at Jackson school, was elected president of the Medford City Teachers association at a re cent meeting. He succeeds C. Gordon Mor ris of McLoughlin Junior High school, who assumed duties of president when George Sloniger resigned lat fall. Robert Semon of Medford High school was elected vice president; Mrs. Eula Foley, McLoughlin Junior High, was named treasurer . and Mary Lou Hanke, Jefferson school, was elected secretary. Shurtleff has been chair man of the economic security committee for the past two years. Teaching posts in the Medford system have included Jackson, Roosevelt and Oak Grove schools. D. LeMasters, their daughter, Mrs. William Neil, and their grandson. All went to Bend Saturday where they spent the night and visited the Peterson rock garden. Sun day they visited the lava beds and caves and Lava Butte near Klamath Falls. Mrs. Hazel Vaughn return ed to her home in Roseburg the first of the week after spending the week end with her sister here, Mrs. Guy Cobleigh. Mrs. L. E. Lumbley. of San Diego, Calif., returned to her home last week after visiting her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred florin, since the middle' of last month. While here she and the Morin family went to Lake of the Woods. with the Oregon Education as sociation and the National Education association. Lecturers are people who have gained distinction in a variety of fields. The series is being sponsored by the com mittee on higher education of the Oregon Centennial com mission. - . ' Dr. C Easton Rothweil, president of Mills college and a graduate of Reed college and the University of Oregon, will speak in Medford July 29. Dr. Linus Pauling, Nobel prize winner in chemistry and a member of the faculty at California Institute of Tech nology, will speak in Ashland early in September. Coin Box Thefts Reported to Police Thefts of metal coin boxes from three soft drink ma chines last week were report ed to Medford police. One box containing $7 or $8 in change was taken from a machine at Kruggel's Tex aco service, Fourth st. and Central ave., according to a Friday report. A second box, containing about $5 in change, was taken from a machine at Crater Inn motel, 841 South Riverside ave., police reported. A third was taken from a machine at Guy and Bob's Texaco serv ice, 501 South Riverside ave. The amount of money in this box was not specified. West Point Man Home on Leave David Spangler, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Spangler, route 1, box .364, Talent, has ar rived home from West Point for a month's vacation.
