Mary Sue Woolf olx Crowned Queen o Portland Festival I Portland (UPD With Ore gon's fanciest birthday party officially under way Wednes day at the Centennial. Ex position grounds here, the 51st annual Rose Festival se lected its queen Wednesday night in Multnomah stadium and the pace of excitement quickened today as the dual celebrations continued. In a downpour of rain, Mary Sue Woolf oik of Jef ferson high school Wednesday night was crowned Queen Mary Sue I to rule over the week-long festival. A crowd of 17,523 gathered in Mult nomah stadium despite the adverse weather to watch the selection. Members of the Rose court were protected from tne rain by pink um brellas. Outlook Not Bright' The weatherman admitted the outlook through Friday was not particularly bright. The forecast was a few show ers and occasional sunny per iods. . Officials hoped for a break in the weather before the Grand. Floral parade Sat urday. - Nine U. S. Navy ships In cluding the flagship cruisers Helena and Bremerton were to arrive this afternoon to complete the naval contin gent here for the festivities. DeanVincentBuys Brokerage Firm Dean Vincent Inc., Portland mortgage brokerage firm, has purchased the mortgage brok erage business of Mark A. Goldy Inc.. and will begin operations here July 1, it was announced. Medford manager will be Richard (Dick) Henselman, who has been Goldy's associ ate in the brokerage insur ance and real estate business. The firm's office will be in the same location as the Goldy's, on Front st. between Sixth and Main sts. Goldy said he will continue active in other lines of busi ness in Medford, retaining the firm name. Henselman v Will also continue his association with Goldy. The Vincent company is one of the largest in the mortgage business in Oregon, and Goldy said 4heir opening an office here will mean a consistent and large supply of mortgage money for southern Oregon's needs. Vincent is mortgage loan corresponuent for several large insurance companies, in cluding 'Metropolitan Life in surance company of New York, largest in the world." Dean Vincent Sr., founder of the company and chairman of the board, opened his Port land office 50 years ago. Dean Vincent Jr., president of the firm, and James F. Kavanagh, first vice president in charge of mortgage loans, will be frequent visitors to Medford as result of the new move. Minesweeper Hits Dock at Portland Portland - (UPD The mine sweeper USS Inflict, one of the U.S. Navy ships to arri here Wednesday for the an nual Rose Festival, developed a fire in an engine room as it entered the Willamette river from the Columbia river. It lost steering control and graz ed the dock of General Pe troleum Company, tearing out five pilings. Navy authorities reported minor damage to the side of the ship and no injuries. The fire was minor and quickly controlled. The Inflict continued into Portland harbor and tied up at the seawall at the foot of Alder st. Investigators were check ing into the amount of dam age at the pier.
