Crematorium.
Mrs. Smith was born in
Calmar, Iowa, on July 27,
1880 and had been a resident
of this community for the
past nine years.

Smith, Medford, one son,
Robert Smith; two nephews,
Robert L. Baldock of Los An
geles, Calif, and Fredrick Bal
dock of Pittsburgh, Pa.

in 1914 and left this area in
1942. He had lived in Rock-;
away for six years.

are two daughters, Mrs. Allen

and Mrs. Willie Jones, Cen
tral Point; four brothers, John
H. Hilkey, Otis Hilkey, and
Glenn Hilkey, all Portland,

port Sunday for refueling.
The helicopters, traveling in
dividually, arrived here at

This is the second time
within four days that Army
helicopters have used the lo

State Police Office
Open 24 Hours Daily
The Medford district office
of the Oregon State police is
open 24-hours, 7-days a week,
local state police officers re
minded residents today.
It was reported that the of
fice had received calls lately
from residents who believed
that state police assistance
was only available 40 hours a
week and that the office was
closed at night.
Local officials explained
that the t misunderstanding
might have been due to recent
state legislation putting state
patrolman on a 40-hour week.
This legislation will not
change the operating hours of
the state police force, it was
reported.

Newsboy Bitten on
Sunday Morning Run
Dale Leroy Carson, 12, of
107 Crater Lake ave., was bit
ten by a dog early Sunday
morning while delivering
newspapers on his bicycle,
Medford police reported.
The bite caused bleeding
but did not require stitches,
it was reported.
Police said two dogs, a box
er and a part-husky, part-German
shepherd, chased Carson
and the husky-shepherd bit
him. The boxer had nipped
him on a previous occasion,
according to the report. The
incident reportedly occurred
at the intersection of East
wood dr. andKeene Way dr.
The dogs belong to Fred
Allen Wetnerly, 62 South
Keene Way dr., police reported.
Six Youths Arrested
On Liquor Charges
. Six Grants Pass teen-agers
received $35 fines each in
Medford municipal court this
morning on charges of illegal
possession of intoxicating bev
erages. They were reportedly ar
rested Friday night on South
Central ave., at Boyd st.
Among those fined were
Darrell John Deters, 19, and
Stewart William Morrow, 18.
Another' boy, 17, and three
girls-two 17 and one 16-also
were charged and fined after
Jackson county juvenile au
thorities, according to police,
declined to take action.
Log Jam Causes Boat
To Capsize in Rogue
C. H. Hollis and . his son,
Charles, both of 510 Mae st.,
Medford, escaped injury early
Sunday morning when their
boat captized in the Rogue
river above the McLeod
bridge. ' .
According to Charles Hol
lis the boat caught on a log
jam in the river shortly after
they started fishing, causing
the boat to captize in the
swift current.
The two men, both wear
ing life jackets, managed to
reach shore but lost both the
boat and their fishing gear.

Three Persons
Injured Sunday
Three persons were injured
in Medford traffic accidents
early Sunday, bringing the
total injured since Friday
morning to 11, according to
Medford police. '
Joseph Yoland Braley, 28,
and Dolores Louise Braley,
25, both of Modesto, Calif.,
suffered sprained necks when
their car was struck from be
hind about 1:20 a.m. while
stopped for a traffic light on
North Central ave. at Sixth
St., police reported.
Robert Floras Broomfield,
"2010 Kings highway, driver
of the car that reportedly
struck the Braley vehicle, was
cited for following too close,
according to the report. Po
lice said the Braleys' car was
shoved forward into a Yellow
Cab operated by Johnnie Hu
bert Robbins, 910 West 11th
St., who was also waiting for
the light.
Broomfield, Robbins and
two passengers in Robbins'
cab escaped appreciable ' in
jury, according to the report.
The Braleys were treated at
Sacred Heart hospital.
: Robert Eugene Aldredge,
according to the report, was
a passenger in a car driven
by Jack Walter Vance, 518
Beatty st., who was cited for
violating the basic rule after
the car, southbound on South
Central ave. at Boyd st., veer
ed suddenly and rolled. Vance
stated he had tried to miss a
dog that ran in front of the'
car.-
