It will be chiefly a meeting place for youth activities, including Boy and Girl Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, and other or ganizations. A campaign to raise funds for the building has started in the Eagle Point area, and construction is expected to start in the near future. The building will be lo cated at the north end of North B t. Chamber Members Tour Domiciliary , Over 20 Jackson County Chamber of Commerce mem bers Thursday visited the Camp White domiciliary for luncheon and tours of inspec tion. i Henry Herzog, domiciliary manager, informed them that the veterans' institution in jects about $2V million a year into the local economy through salaries and through pensions and other compensa tions which domiciliary mem bers spend in this area. i The 1,025-bed domiciliary has an annual budget of about $2 million, he reported. He said it employs about 200 lo cal residents and about 150 domiciliary members. Average Membership The average total of domi ciliary members is about 925, Herzog said. The present age range, he reported, is from 22 through 93. The average age, officials said, is about 62. Herzog explained that , be ing a veteran and possessing a chronic disability that pre vents normal employment are prerequisites for admission. John W. Sinders, person nel officer and leader of one of the tours, told chamber members that many domicil iary members leave the prem ises during the warm months and seek re-admittance "when the first frost hits." For this reason, he said, while the waiting list may va ry from 100 to 200during part of the year, "We don't have one right now." About 100 to 150 members are excluded from the domi ciliary each year for disci plinary reasons, Sinders slid. Chamber members on the tour saw such varied sights as art, craft and hobby facili ties, a model railroad, a room full of. jig saw puzzles, the infirmary, dentists' offices, a new barracks, the.library, the movie theater and the chapel. The tour was arranged by Miller Huggins, chairman of the chamber's visitation committee. 81 Disease Cases Reported in County Eighty-one cases of influen za were reported to the Jack son county health department last week, according to Dr. A. Sixth & Central Medford's Bargain Corner Fruit Trees Need Spraying Soon, County Agent Say Home orchardists who have not sprayed apples and pears for coddling moth, should do so as .soon as possible, Don Berry, extension agent, said today. Since the pest causes wormy, fruit, by using one heaping tablespoon of 50 per cent DDT per gallon of water, and spraying at 20 day inter vals, worms can generally be controlled, he said. Aphides are also showing up on many fruit and shade trees. The addition of one table spoon of Malathion per gallon of water to the DDT spray, will control aphides and psylla. On ornamental trees and shrubs, Malathion is general ly effective and safe to use. It controls a wide variety of insect pests, but should not be applied on edible food plants, or fruits, closer than three days -before harvest, Berry said. Thorough spraying is re quired for good aphid control-, and repeat applications are sometimes necessary. Vary in Color Aphides vary in color and size, according to the species, Berry noted. There are thous ands of different kinds, rang ing in colors from gray, green, yellow, and black. They are seldom more than an eighth of an inch long, and sometimes have clear wings, making them resemble some flies. - Backyard cherry growers should spray immediately, to prevent worms in cherries. One heaping tablespoon of Mathoxychlor in a gallon of water, repeated at 10day In tervals, until harvest, will ! control these worms - where aphides are a problem add Malathion. Further information on home orchard spraying and spray schedules for gardens can be obtained from the county agent's office, on the lower floor of the courthouse.
