Fourth Dies
From Collision
Roseburg - (UPD - A car-pickup
truck collision May 22 just
north of Winston on Highway
42 claimed a fourth victim
Friday night. John David
Terry, 26, Roseburg, died in
community hospital here of
injuries suffered in the crash.
Three others were killed
outright. They were Everett
K. Ward, 54, Roseburg; his
wife, Gwendolyn Caroline
Ward, 47, and William George
Redenius, 63, also of Rose
burg. Terry was driver of the
automobile, state police said.
Redeniug was his passenger
and the Wards were in the
pickup.

husband's aunt-
Aunt Carol lives alone not
very far from us. She is a
typist and works at home all
day. Of course, it is boring
and lonely for her so she
thinks nothing of calling me
up or "dropping in" a few
times a day.
I have three small children
and a busy household to Tun.
Aunt Carol sometimes gives

ed to her as nicely and tact
ful as I could that I am real
ly too busy for these visits,
but she doesn't pay attention
and sometimes I think she is
really hostile to me and wants
to make trouble. My husband
does nothing.

posed to do about it? I can't
go tell my aunt not to bother
my wife. I told Sandra that
she can say anything she

Aunt Carol's feelings.
This aunt has always been

folks. She helped see me
through college and before
my father died he told me to
always look out for her be
cause there is really nobody
else in the family she can de
pend upon.
I always remind Sandra she
certainly likes to have Aunt
Carol "drop in" when she
comes to babysit for us. After
all, you can't always take
and never give. It is hard for
Aunt Carol being the way
she is with no close friends,
You can really go crazy with
just the four walls to talk to.
THE COUNCIL: The per
son who has the biggest
problem in this case is Aunt
Carol and we don't believe
that Sandra is helping things
much be being too timid to
speak up. John isn't helping
either when he advises San
dra to say "anything" but not
hurt Aunt Carol's feelings.
, The fact is that some things
must hurt, and one of them
-, is the knowledge that we
' need someone who doesn't
particularly need or want us.
There are harsh ways and

person who has become some
v what of a pest, but even the
kind way will hurt. It can
only be hoped that the in
jured party will benefit by
the pain, will suddenly come
to an understanding that will
bring about an inner change.
A maiden lady in her 50s
who works at home all day
and has no close friends is
in an extremely bad fix and
those who allow her to im
pose herself upon them are
not doing her a good turn.
There are hundreds of ways
in which this woman can ex-

wake up and realize it her
self. If she insists upon tak
ing Sandra's words in the
wrong spirit, she will just
wrap herself in anger and
self-pity and look for some
body else to use in the same
- way.
Sandra's idea that Aunt
Carol is "really hostile" and
wants "to make trouble" is
probably false and based on
irrational fear of an older
woman who might represent
her mother. Sandra may help

a kindly way with Aunt Car
ol. She might even be help
ful by suggesting that an ac
complished typist like Aunt
Carol would do well to get
a job outside her home. It
would probably bring her
more money as well as social
contacts. '
