May 31, 1959 1,655 to Receive Degrees at OSC Corvallis - A total of 1,655 degrees, second highest num ber in history, will be confer red June 8 by Oregon State college at its 90th annual com mencement exercises. The total is 150 more than a year ago and is topped only by the veteran-packed gradu ating class of 1950 when 1,968 degrees were conferred. Thirty - three doctors' de crees will be conferred this year along with 270 master's degrees and 1,350 bachelor's degrees. Two honorary degrees also will be given. Recipients will be Wilfrid E. Johnson, gen eral manager of the Hanford Atomic Products Operation, General Electric company, Richland, Wash., and Yasuo Baron Goto, director of the University of Hawaii agricul tural extension service. John son, a 1930 OSC graduate, is one of the nation's outstand ing engineers. Goto is a recog nized leader in international agriculture. Baccalaureate service will be Sunday, June 7, with Dr, Theodore A. Gill, president of San Francisco Theological Seminary, as speaker. Both baccalaureate and commence ment will be held In the coli seum to provide maximum eating, for parents, guests, and the general public.
