DOHERTY Milwaukee - (UPD - Harvey Haddix will be living in a goldfish bowl for the next few months. The little Pittsburgh Pirates lefthander will be the subject of interviews, endorsements, banquets, and even a National league ceremonial because of the 12 innings of perfect base ball he threw at the Milwau kee Braves Tuesday night. The historic chore will mean some extra money for him too. How much isn't cer tain at this time, but one un official source said it could boost his income this year by '$10,000, maybe more. Tele vision show doubtless will be after him to tell his story. The. razor blade sponsors will probably want him to shave before the cameras. He was deluged with tele grams Wednesday and he probably gave more inter views 'in a day than he had in his seven years in the majors. "Look at my eyes," said Haddix in the Pirates dugout before Wednesday night's game with Milwaukee. "I didn't get as much sleep today as I usualy do." "You probably were the most photographed and talk ed about man in the country today," said a reporter. Just then another radio man came up and asked if Haddix "was ready." With that he walked over to the corner of the dug out to repeat the story of how he set down 36 Braves in a row without a hit and ther lost in a whacky 13th inning. It wasn't until midday Wednesday that the score was finally decreed to be 1-0 by National League President Warren Giles. The whole affair was com plicated. Joe Adcock hit the ball over the fence with Henry Aaron and Felix Man tilla on base for what should have been three runs. But the big first baseman passed Aaron, who had stopped run ning .because he thought the ball was inside the park and Mantilla had already scored. Umpire Frank Dascoli gave Adcock a double and scratch ed one of the runs. Giles said only the run necessary to win the game will be counted. 'He said Ad cock would be officially credited with a double be cause he had failed to touch all the bases. MEIrX)RI)Utt&TRIBUKl Relief (DhucEters Come Through for Braves, White Sox By FRED DOWN , United Pztss International Speaking of "perfect pitch ers," how about Don McMa hon of the Milwaukee Braves and Gerry Staley of the Chi cago White Sox? Neither has started a game this season, much less pitched 12 perfect innings, but man ager Fred Haney of the Braves will take fireballer McMahon and manager Al Lopez of the White Sox will take knuckle bailer Staley when a spotless relief job is required to wrap up a victory. The ace "lock-up hurlers" did it again Wednesday when the Braves beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-3, to retain their three -game National league lead and the White Sox down ed the Cleveland Indians, 5-1, toi;move within one game of the top rung in the American league. McMahon. who has a per fect 1-0, 1.000 slate to show for 12 relief appearances, needed only three pitches-all strikes-to put down a ninth inning Pittsburgh rally and preserve Warren Spahn's 252nd major league win. The Pirates, suddenly coming to life after 26 consecutive score less innings against Milwau kee pitching, had rallied for three runs and had the tying run on second base" when Mc Mahon took over and bombed three strikes past Dick Scho field to end the game. . t Saves Wynn's 256th Win . Staley, who has only a 1-1 won-lost record but an amaz ing 0.58 earned run average in 18 relief appearances, sav ed the 356th victory of Early Wynn's career by halting a ninth-inning Cleveland rally. Staley replaced Wynn with runners on second and third and one out and retired Min nie Minoso and Rocky Cola vito without permitting a run to score. The San Francisco Clants blitzed the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-4, the Cincinnati Reds rout ed the Philadelphia Phillies, 10-4, and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago Cubs, 4-1, in the other Nation al league games. The New York Yankees shaded the Bos ton Red Sox, 3-2, and the Washington Senators beat the Baltimore Orioles, 6-0, in oth er AL action. Ed Mathews hit his 15th homer and Johnny Logan drove in two runs to lead the Braves to their fourth victory in five meetings with the Pirates. Vern Law-like Har vey Haddix on Tuesday night -saw his punchless mates waste repeated scoring oppor tunities. Earl Torgeson and Sherman Lollar homered to pace an eight-hit White Sox attack that raised Wynn's season record to' 7-3. Giants Hit Three Willie Mays, Orlando Ce peda, and Andre Rodgers hit homers as Johnny Antonelli won his sixth game for San Francisco. Stan Musial hom-ered-his first in two seasons on the West Coast. Bob Purkey squared his sea son record at 5-5 as Frank Robinson clouted two homers and Vada Pinson and Ed Bailey hit one each for Cin cinnati. Robin Roberts suffer ed his fourth loss against only two victories. Don Drysdale struck out 11 batters to lift his NL leading total to 81 and yielded the For This Weekend WEEKENDERS! Camilo Pascual pitched a no-hitter for six innings and wound up with a two-hitter as the Senators tightened their grip on fourth place.
