He arrived in Med f ord last week from Lewiston, Idaho, where he was manager of another Weisfield store. The Idaho man has been in the jewelry business for 14 vearc of which 7 were with the Weisfield stores, it was reported. He has managed and operated stores in California, Nevada, Idaho and Portland and Klamath Falls in Oregon. Alesko explained that the local store will continue its policy of carrying national brand name merchandise. -Mrs. Alesko and their three children plan to arrive in the valley following the closing of school. Alesko was active in Cub Scout work in Lewis ton and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce there. He is a member of the Lions club and Elks and Moose lodges. ' Yreka Western Railroad Holds Week End Tour Yreka-Nearly 200 persons took advantage of temporari ly restored passenger service on the Yreka Western rail road last week end and toured northern California. The tour, planned by the California - Nevada Railroad Historical society, provided deluxe service with pullman cars and diners from lines over the western half of the United States. Thirteen cars made the eight-mile Yreka Western run pulled by Old No. 18, a steamer which puff ed up a 2.2 degree grade with a diesel behind to give a push when needed. . , The two are the only en gines operating on the Yreka Western. The line employes 1? persons and operates a flat car, ballast car and seven trucks which make daily trips to Scott Valley and Happy Camp. Service Slopped in 1924 Passenger service was dis continued to Yreka in about 1924. Last week's passengers were routed from Oakland by Western Pacific, Great North ern, McCloud River railroad and Southern Pacific before their train was picked up by No. 18. Yreka Western was a com munity promoted project built in 1888 after Southern Pacific decided to bypass Yreka in favor of Montague. Willis B. Kyle, Los Angeles engineer, is present owner. O. G. Steele, receiver for the route from 1936 to 1945, was among passengers mak ing the special trip. IWA Recommends Contract Agreement . Portland - (UPD - The North west regional negotiating com mittee for the International Woodworkers of America union said today it was recom mending that union locals ap prove a tentative agreement with Georgia-Pacific Corpora tion on a contract calling for a pay increase of 20Vi cents per hour, . Chairman Harvey R. Nelson of the IWA committee, said the committee would present the same recommendation to all employers with whom con tract negotiations are present ly underway. j.ne recommended agree ment with G-P and its sub sidiaries was reached in a ne gotiation session here.
