ft Neuberger Implies Disruption by Morse Portland-WP&- Sen. Richard L. Neuberger (D-Ore.), im plied in letters to Oregon newspaper editors yesterday that Sen. Wayne L. Morse (D Ore), is causing disruption among Democrats in Oregon's Congressional delegation. Neuberger was commenting on a speech Morse made to the Oregon State Farmers union at Marion, Ore., April 11. Morse was quoted as at tacking Neuberger for his stand on bi-partisan foreign policy, foreign aid, recipro cal trade, a balanced budget, and other policies. The Oregon Farmer Union, the official paper of the Ore gon Farmers Union, quoted Morse as saying: 'Completely Disagree "I completely disagree with my junior colleague because he would rubber stamp these ill-starred foreign policies which have brought American prestige to a new low ebb in most of the world. I'll never be a -rubber stamp for any one." In his letters, Neuberger pointed out that his votes on foreign aid roll calls closely parallelled those of Sens. Hu bert Humphrey and John Kennedy, both of whom are considered Democratic presi dential possibilities. Then he asked if Morse would include them in his indictment. 'Not Reasonable' He also said foreign aid Miss. Governor Defends Asking FBI Assistance Jackson, Miss. - (UPD - Gov. J. P. Coleman said Friday he asked the FBI to investigate the Poplarville lynch investi gation because "it is my duty to stand against the irrespon sible." . Coleman, who has been criticized for requesting FBI assistance in the four-week-old abduction from jail and slaying of Negro rape suspect Mack Charles Parker, told a news conference "I think' the time will come when all people will see the wisdom of what I have done." Coleman said justice depart ment officials in Washington were studying the question of whether the lynchers violated any federal law. If none was violated, he said, any indict ment would have to come from the Pearl River county grand jury, which meets in November. Other sources said the FBI has submitted the names of men it has identified as the lynchers to Washington, along with the evidence, for a de cision on how to go about prosecuting them. . If the Pearl River grand jury received the case , and failed to return an indictment, "that would be the end of it," Coleman said. "The grand jury is the one tribunal in our form of government -from which there is no appeal." The governor said he per- o n a 1 1 y investigated com plaints that the FBI harassed citizens o f "Poplarville and found "there, just isn't any thing to these charges v 4-H CLUB NEWS Table Rock Packrais The meeting of the Table Rock Packrats was held Mon day, May 18, at the home of Mrs. Ruth Brown. Neuberger concluded that he had written the letters "to demonstrate just who might be causing this dissension in the Democratic party and in Oregon politics." MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Or. Sunday, May 24, 1959 7 Steel Bargainers Fail to Progress Toward New Pact New York -(UPD- Steel wage negotiators yesterday took the week end off after failing to make any progress toward a new contract for 500,000 steelworkers. They rounded out the sec ond week of joint collective bargaining sessions with both sides just as far apart on basic economic issues as when they started. They recessed their talks Friday until Mon day. The four -man negotiating teams have engaged in some heated v debates on inflation, prices and wages and both, have reasserted their deter mination to stick by their guns. y The union is pressing for substantial contract gains which it says the industry can grant without resorting to an inflationary price increase. The industry says it cannot absorb any further increases in employment costs and has called for a one -year wage freeze to combat inflation and foreign competition. Although neither chief ne gotiator - R. Conrad Cooper for the industry nor David J. McDonald for the union - has discussed details of the wage talks with reporters, both sides have made their stands clear in newspaper advertise ments, speeches and other ways. The present three-year con tract runs out at midnight June 30 and a steel strike is almost certain to result if no agreement exists by then. North Entrance Road Opening Set The north entrance road to Crater National park will open Friday, May 29, provid ing heavy snow does not fall this week, Tom Williams, su perintendent, has announced. Williams said bulldozers and plows reached the north entrance road several weeks ago with one-way traffic, but subsequent snow storms drift ed the road full in many places and hampered work of widen ing, the path. If storms prevent the sched uled opening, William said, signs will be posted on High way 97 and highway 230 ad vising motorists. Although the snowfall was the lightest on record, Williams said mo torists will travel through snow cuts 20 feet or more in depth. The lodge and cafeteria will be opened June 15, Wil liams said, but no date has been set for opening camp ground facilities.
