i Southern Baptists Turn Attention To National Problems Louisville, Ky. -UPB-South-em - Baptists, today turned their attention from denomi national to national problems including the touchy issue of race relations. At the final session of their 102nd annual convention the racial question, which has fireworks at previous conven tions, was brought up indirect ly in a resolution. It called for a "summit conference of Southern Baptist leaders with the leaders of the two major Negro Baptist denominations to seek better mutual under standing on racial problems. Proposal Endorsed Former Rep. Brooks Hays (D-Ark.), retiring president of the 9,206,000 member denomi nation, strongly endorsed the proposal. He said such a "high level conference" of Baptist leaders could do much to re store communication between white and Negro Christians on tensions of great concern to both. A resolution calling on par ents to help- the Post Office Department curb the "flow of fifth" being mailed to Ameri can children by pornography peddlers, a proposal to send an unofficial observer to the United Nations and a token of Southern Baptist concern for world peace and grim warn ings about the spread of alcoholism were other major items on today's program. The anti-obscenity resolu tion was sponsored by Joe Burton, convention secretary. It praised Postmaster General Arthur . Summerfield for his efforts to prosecute "pur veyors of filth," who are do ing an estimated $600 million annual mail order business in pornography aimed primarily at teen-aged children. Hays also endorsed a report to the world peace committee recommending that Southern Baptist observes be sent to the United Nations headquarters in New York. Several other Ye 01 d Scads of Southern Oregon babies started drinking Snider's Milk in 1904 (this was only 92 years after the War of 1812). "Walk up to any healthy' looking person with more hair, teeth and more teeth and they'll confirm that they were a Snider's Milk baby. Girls get prettier and boys smarter (and huskier, too!) when they drink Snider's GOLDEN GUERNSEY milk. Pick Daisy's, please! x major denominations already have such observers. Hays said the action would show that Southern Baptists are deeply concerned about world peace and interested in international efforts to pre serve it. British Color Film Scheduled The public is invited, to a free showing of a British color film entitled "Antarctic Cross ing," to be shown Monday at 8 p-m. in the Medford High school auditorium. Sponsoring the show is the Tucker Sno-Cat Corp. of Med ford. The picture was taken dur ing the journey of British Ant arctic explorers, under the leadership of Sir Vivian Fuchs, across the Antarctic continent, and across the South Pole. Four Medford-made Sno Cats were the main means of transportation, and are fea tured prominently in the pic ture. The film has had one prior private showing in Med ford, but this is the first pub lic screening of the picture. The Tucker firm just this week received its own copy of the film. Doors will open at 7:15 p.m., and the picture will start at 8 p.m. sharp. The epic journey across the southern Continent has been featured in a number of maga zines, including Life, the Na tional Geographic, and others. Some of the pictures taken on the 90-day 2,100-mile journey have appeared in the Mail Tribune. One of the Sno-Cats used on the trip has been repur chased by the Sno-Cat com pany, and for a time was on display in downtown Med ford. ttJtaJbaiiiy A Snider Cow Quotes From the News By UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL Geneva-Secretary of State Herter, accusing Soviet For eign Minister Andrei Gromyko of adding to world tensions: "I hope that in the course of the discussions ... this type of accusation and innuendo will cease, and that it will not, if repeated, lead to a type of discussion which can become a very great irritant and, more than that, might well lead to very serious tensions." Late one night some weeks ago, Mrs. Doud awoke and rang for the nurse. There was no answer and the aged wom an used a bedside telephone to summon friends. When the President visited the Air Force Academy out side Colorado Springs last week, he was quite impressed by . the shining modernistic buildings and their vast ex panse of broad windows. Apparently, the chief exec utive was not told about one of the more embarrassing problems at the new academy. Hail and wind storms howling down out of the Rockies break the big windows on occasion. Asked how frequently the windows are blown or knock ed out, one officer said, "I'm not at liberty to discuss such a thing, but I have this com ment: This would be one whale of a place to build a branch of the Pittsburgh Glass company." Touch of Glamour " Barbara Eisenhower, the President's daughter - in - law and wife of Maj. John S. Eis enhower, certainly adds a touch of glamour to the presi dential entourage when she travels aboard the Columbine III. The pretty young mother of four has a new, seemingly cas ual hairdo with recently add ed golden tints scattered through her normally dark hair. Somehow it seems prop erly modern and part of the air age to see a mother of four children-and one of them 11 yjears old-looking more like a cover girl than a harrassed parent with dishparr hands. San Francisco Favored People who should know where the if-and-when sum mit conference is to be held are now betting on San Fran cisco, as well as . Geneva. Three weeks ago, they were willing, to give odds on Geneva. A decision should be reach ed within two or three weeks on the site, but a date is some thing else again. The time fac tor would be subject to quite some chance, - depending on the mood in which the foreign ministers end their meeting. i MAIL TRIBUNE. MedW.
